 Re: 1200 Shock Absorbers
Hi, i just got an awesome deal at supercheap auto over here, special order shocks that a guy did not collect and sat on the shelves, i saw them which had a special price on them of $5 each down from $150 each, bought them both, remembered seeing this post that vw beetle shocks would fit on the rear of a datsun coupe, these shocks i bought were for a 67 - 75 vw, KYB gas a justs part number kg4520
Heres a link to a post i made on nzdatsun with photos but never got an answer back.

are these alright to use in datsun 1200 coupe? I also saw somewhere on here not to use gas shocks in the rear of coupe but to use oil shocks, is this correct

 Re: 1200 Shock Absorbers
It is "alright" to use gas-filled shocks. What was previously said is that the original specification shocks (non-gas) will be less harsh and will help eliminate bouncing.

Gas shocks are primarily oil-filled, with a gas over the oil to help suppress frothing. But since they are under pressure, it makes the shocks stiffer than non-gas shocks. With most cars, with typical "soft" suspension, gas shocks tighten it up a bit (an improvement). But with Datsun 1200 already having stiff rear springs, making them even stiffer is not necessarily what you want.

 Re: 1200 Shock Absorbers (Coupe)
Very nice information DD and also take note that you can get lowered versions of KYB for type 1 bettles and also GAB brand.
I used to have these lowered version shocks on my manx beach buggy and they where awesome. You can also get coilover shocks for the type 1 which I have never had but bettles stuff is good news for the datsun as they have the best aftermarket service of any car.
