I am assuming there is some cutting involved to get sufficent airflow.
Would a thicker core 1200 radiator do the same job?

 Re: Gemini Vs 1200 radiator
I just had another look at the radiator, on one side the wreckers wrote "early gemini" in white pen and the other side there is "Dihatsu 2 door?" written in white pen so it could also be a 2 door dihatsu radiator?
If you use a thicker core 1200 radiator you are getting really close to the water pump pulley bolts, I tried to fit a thermo fan inbetween the radiator and pulleys but I can't fit one in there, I had to put one in behind the grille

I had mine is a 120Y which had a little section in the rad support which could be unbolted so that the gemini radiator was a perfect fit

Looks exactly the same to me apart from the mounting brackets. Even the indents are in the same place.

apart from minor differences id say they are the same top and bottom end tanks. Probably just minor differnces in a year model or something.

my quick tip for fitting the stock hoses over the gemini pipes is 5 to 10 sec in the microwave then straight on (use a tea towel to hold the hose as it gets warm). easy as then, and shirnks onto the pipes.

 Re: Gemini Vs 1200 radiator
Early gemini radiators have the pin and rubber on the bottom in the middle as per the first pic ( these are imported gemini's pre 75), later are all the same ( Autos have auto lines) they have the wider mountings and no bottom pin. the cores are the same, just different mount's. I've used a late model and just bent the wide sides to mount with 2 bolt holes I drilled. If you don't want to put your radiator hose in the microware use a little engine oil on the inside of the hose to help it slide onto the large radiator fittigns.

Now this is a great way to have mineral oil running through your cooling system as well as having your rubber hoses decompose even more quickly.
Mineral oil is the enemy of rubber.

How about using a little dishwashing liquid as a lubricant. You end up with some suds in the cooling system, but this will do no harm at all & will settle down soon enough when you add the anti boil/anti freeze coolant.

Personally, I use a thin smear of rubber grease, but only when necessary.

I have put it in front of my worked A15 and it runs alot cooler instead of just over half on the gauge it now runs a tad over a quarter on the gauge.
I used a touch of sorbelen moisturiser from the bathroom to get the hoses on and i am yet to make some brackets instead I am using two cable ties and a wedge of plastic to stop vibrations! true backyard mechanics!

It's supposed to run at the half way mark, regardless of the radiator size. I would suggest that you check/replace the thermostat. It's the thermostat that controlls the running temperature & a good radiator simply allows it to do its job properly

 Re: Gemini Vs 1200 radiator
I havnt red all the posts but i took a commodore radiator out of my 1200 & replaced it with a stock 1200 one when I fitted my a14 running 10.6:1 comp ratio & have had no probs at all. Even in 40degree heat in trafic with a 10 inch thermo. All i did was had the radiator flushed out & a davis craig thermo fan fits the radiator perfectly on the outside. Now i race it & the fan is on a toggle switch & idont even turn it on. (but i havnt raced since july)
