New blades fitted

I turned the bottom thick blade around, so that the shackle now goes over the rear part of the blades. This should help with the axle twist when launching hard. |

Re: New blades fitted Competition EngineeringHi last post on this subject, found this site with a bunch of drawings on how the various "slapper" bar systems work.

 Re: New blades fitted BUMP
Last time on question below. I'm fairly familiar with engines, but will like some more light on the leaves.

Re: New blades fitted Hi Francois, i have never seen ute leafs but I would remove that short leaf and replace it with the standard short leaf from your original spring pack. You might want to get them reset lower as well.

Re: New blades fitted I'd say the link is to help with axle tramp when the spring winds up.. so I would have thought better the link at the front..

Re: New blades fitted I don't think it is going to help with axle housing twist.... . the problem is that as you launch the spring starts to turn into an S-shape -well not really, but the bit in front of the axle housing flattens & in extreme cases will become concave, & the back bows out. I cant see how this setup would prevent that, because the section that the shackle is tethered to is moving (bowing out) as well. If you really have that much power, what you need are strong bars, bolted to the aaxle housing, going forward to brace against the spring right up the front where they meet the chassis. Pretty sure they'r called tramp rods.

Re: New blades fitted yeah, i think its backwards, this would help with taking off in reverse, shackle should be on front, and you should use something that wont bend, not a leaf, ive seen some pretty chunky box steel used for this in a similar way

Re: New blades fitted I'll be turning them around again then, only takes like 5 minutes to do anyway. Haven't received the top shackle rubbers, so they are not bolted up yet.
This was just meant as an interim measure, was going to fit tramp(?) bars anyway. Just going to wait for the car to be roadworthied first. They tend to whine about such additions sometimes.
Could be making round about 250Kw and 400nm, which is what someone else is making with the same engine and turbo config...

Re: New blades fitted What is the purpose of this shackle on the bottom thick blade? I can only pressume that it's some kind of anti dive aid when braking with a load on an UTE. I turned the blade around so that the shackle sits at the back to help with axle twist.
There is still time to undo this, as I'm waiting for the rear shackle rubbers that goes into the body. That's if it was generally a bad idea to turn the around.
Please comment on this.
