Got this dizzy out of a E15E pulsar. After searching through parts books i finnaly found a cap and rotor for a 4G15 Mitsubishi motor!?! Did the end swap with a old A series dizzy, redrilled an adjuster slot and plugged it in. Started first pop.

AUD $65 all up.

Now here is a budget upgrade that anyone can do that offers real performance gains.

Nice work Beattie.

 Re: Elecy ignition, Easy as!
Ok, here is exactly what i did.

-Went to wreckers and got the only electronic distributer left off a Nissan Pulsar with a E15(e) motor.

- Searched around for a cap and rotor. The "standard" E15 rotor is the convensional style, same style as the A-series that is. This Distributer has a round item that is fastened to the top plate where the centrafugal weights are and covers them completely. The cap is nothing special. It is just taller then the "standard" E15 item!
Part numbers are
CAP-BOSCH GM554
ROTOR-BOSCH GM555

- Then i took the roll pin out of a old A-series dizzy i had and took off the gear. I then did the same for the small plastic ring on the E-series dizzy. I slid the A-series gear onto the E-series dizzy shaft and redrilled a new hole for the roll pin.

- Then for the adjuster braket i slid the plate off the A-series dizzy over the E-series and marked it with a scribe on the original, alloy(part of the housing) adjuster braket. I then drilled out the slot and filed where nessisary. I also took any exess alloy off.

- I then installed the new dizzy. I used the old adjuster plate as a spacer. I dont know if this is necisary as the gear sits a little lower then in the A-series unit. I wired it up(Black/White to POS. Blue to NEG). You have to use a slightly longer bolt to secure it.

-Fired it up and adjusted timing. It runs 100%. Im going to go buy a fan-dangled performance coil tomorro for it.

So i guess if you get a "standard" E15 dizzy(like all the others pictured on this sight) you shouldnt have to hunt for a cap and rotor. Either way it still works the same way! It never had a cap, only a rotor, when i got it.

Nice work Beattie!

Here's the next challenge for ya - see if you can come up with a $150 5-speed swap!

Edit - PM ddgonzal and I'm sure he'll put it in the Tech Section

Good news -- now anyone can add to our new "tech section" -- the Datsun 1200 Encyclopedia.

Well now i have a A15, heres what i did to make it fit the differnt hole.

I ground all of the alloy adjuster part off and used the dizzy clamp off a Mini. Fits perfectly around the dizzy shank and lines up perfectly with the hole! Dont ya just love that? Bidget is still $65, i stole the Mini adjuster off my boss. He's a Mini nut

 Re: Elecy ignition, Easy as!
when I converted mine what I found was that the A15 adjuster plate fitted over the bottom of the E15 dizzy. funnily enough there is a painted dot on the bottom of the dizzy that exactly matches the location of the original A-series securing bolt. so I just drilled and tapped a hole out and walah, plate fits. I then ground off the original adjustment slot on the body and with a little bit of buffing you cant even tell it was there before. btw does anyone have a wiring diagram for these dizzies? the A15 has been sitting under a cover in a friends garage for some time, but it will be revived for my upcoming morrie project :)

p.s. that vac advance unit looks considerably different from the unit on my dizzy, does the pipe point the right way (eg up) or does it even rotate to suit? what I ended up doing was cutting off the pipe close to the body and then epoxying on an micro-irrigation T fitting to the unit.. the proof will be in the pudding as they say

Just found out what the dizzy internals are out of in my E15 dizzy!

A '83ish Mazda 626 GC! I serviced one last week at work and thought it looked very famillier!

so stock e15 cap and rotor are fine, just need to redlill shaft for a series cog and roll pin (does this mean have to shorten shaft too?) and dizzy clamp/plate.

nope no shortening of anything, just do as i said on the post up a few.

As long as you have the right parts for the dizzy you pick up from the wreckers your ok. I just got some oddball dizzy.
