Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN I think it would be a great mod, people are frightened of the VG30DETT, it did suffer from lack of maintinance, from inexperienced people working on them, 250-300kw on stock internals is a great engine, a few simple mods in a Zed and 220kw at the treads is all good,

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN I know a bloke who is trying to fit a vg30et into a 1200. He hasn't figured out yet how to get the two pipes to meet at the turbo. Says there's not enough room between the motor and the firewall.

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN Quote: Check this out - one of these donks in a 1200 ute. Pity the page never got finished. Eddie sold the car and moved to UK for awhile he also sold his GT40 replica He's now back in Perth and playing with a Cobra replica I still see the ute around now and then Looks alittle worse for wear but still a good go-er Nearly bought it myself

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN i dont know how you saw 2 cams through the oil cap hole?? are you sure??? because if you have seen one of these motors('89 onwards) you will know the oil cap isnt in a good enough spot to see that far in. also why are you asking about an '85 model engine if it isnt the one you intend on using??? good luck just popping the top cover off too for inspection. there is alot of sh1t in the way that needs removing first

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN VG30dett will break your heart. Don't bother.
Changing spark plugs is bad, changing injectors means taking off the head. Serious headaches!!
250kW at the wheels pretty easy, but it's a nightmare.

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN well looks like you may need glasses then. Look at where the spark plugs are, to the side, not in the middle of the 2 cames like a DOHC motor. Look at the car is out of. 1985 Nissan 300ZX(Z31) they only came with the SOHC varient of the VG.
I know this is a SOHC engine, i work on too many of them and rip my hands open doing plugs on too many of them to be wrong.
Is this even the picture of the exact same engine? "This pic was found on carpics.com"
And yeh i think that sounds like the same 120Y Tyrie

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN 85 300zx's were NOT quad cam and that's NOT a quad cam motor. Haha - beat me to it guys Here's a quad:

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN This is the earlier SOHC engine. Anything look familiar? It would seem, Peter, that the engine in your photo [above] is the earlier single overhead cam type. It also seems that this is probably not a picture of the engine that you could buy. Is it possible to get a picture of the ACTUAL engine in question, or is it exactly like the one in your picture.

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN You might get it in the car, but geting it engineered might be the hardest part.
Om the upside, there is a Holden V8 powered 120Y sedan running around NSW that is completely legal, so I suppose it can be done, but I don't think it will be either easy, ...... or cheap.

Re: 1985 NISSAN ZX QUAD CAM V6 TURBO ENGIN That is a Single cam(per head) VG. VG30ET. I am 100% positive of this!
I think there is a VG powered 120Y coupe over here in WA, its a drag car i think.
