 Re: My VB210
Been awhile since I updated this.........

Toasted the A14 again. So I rebuild a STD A15.

Got the block decked, honed, checked, painted and had new frost plugs fitted. Had the head cleaned, planned and the valves reset. All new bearings, seals.... Blah Blah you get the idea.

While the engine was out, I painted the engine bay green......

And fitted...

Had to work out how to reprogram the computer today, as it wasnt running right. Got it to about a point were I am around 90% happy with it.

 Re: My VB210
How do the two compare against each other??? Well the twins worked very well between 3500 and about 6500, gave good power etc, but werent that great low down. The EFI works great over the whole rev range, but lacks the sound of the twins.

Looking schmick as! Where did you get the flares from? Were they origionally bolt on? It's like a different colour version of what I want to do. Are you going for an 80's thing also or did it just work out that way?

 Re: My VB210
It just sort of happen to end up looking like this. Its not really an 80's look, as back in the day(In NZ) wide rims/mags and flare was all the rage, that "look" IMO just kinda suits the 120Y wagon.

Its good to know there is at least one other VB210 fan out there aye!!!

I have PM'ed you about the flares etc.

to me its very 70s coke bottle look very impressive, you might want to consider a chrome grille with the spotlight insets.

Wish they made more of these things they are really beautiful with flares and that colour matched bike mirror. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Yeah I do agree that something needs to be done about the Grille, I dont have any spotlights or the brackets needed to fit them in the coupe grille. I'm not sure what I am going to do about it, I will sort something out oneday and post up the result.

The EFI is factory A series, off sunny's etc. To install, well that was easy, just run another fuel line(for the return or main) wire in acouple of extra feeds the computer needs and its done.

 Re: My VB210
Tom....... Mine are only 13X7's, struts are B310, LCA's etc. I have rub but nothing to much.

Here's the update

Got some freeish paint as I need to paint her as primer just soaks up the water when it rains. Just really wanted to seal her up so it will not rust out to much as she is parked up outside.

Stripped all the shinny bits of and lights etc. Rub her down and did all the fun things that you have to do when you are about to paint a car.

But bugga me the paint reacted with the primer and has gone all orange pearly. So a days effort for jack ####.............. I am slightly pissed off.

Yeah its a #### colour, but freeish paint is hard to pass up if you are poor........ Still slightly pissed off.

Cool. I have been waiting for this. I see a bit of a twin brother thing going on here. I love the flares, I am thinking of doing the same thing myself as I just picked up a pair of 14x8 5 slotters and I want to squeeze 245/50R14's under the rear.

 Re: My VB210
expensive to fix, but definitely worth it!

nothing like a 120Y without the stainless trim - I would have removed it on The Iron Maiden" but there's so much rust in the roof the trim holds it together

have a june '74 shell with not much rust - plan is to eventually put all the good bits out of "The Defect" into it

yes I wiill be busy, but I want a car I can say "I built that"!

no 30 year old car will be totally "rust free"...

It will not cost me much to fix.

It is always a good feeling know that you, your self build that. I sometime get that feeling when I am thrashing the hell out of Monty, but most of the time its "Oh bugga, what broke now???"

That rust is not a big deal to replace with new metal if you love these rare models.

I even saw a panel van once without the rear glass I almost crashed when I saw it go the opposite way

Once the weather warms up abit over here I will get on to the rust issues.

 Re: My VB210
you are very lucky to find a VB210R in such a good condition

no 32 year old car will be completely rust free

even if it is granny spec

The Defect (my first 120Y) has a Football (AFL) sized hole where the guard attaches at the bottom
and you can see light through the left inner sill panel

I'm finding out with The Defect III (3rd 120Y) even though I thought it had less rust thsan my other 120Y's i still has quite a bit of rust

but The Defect III will be loosing it's spare tyre well as it's rusted out!

and 120Y's always rust out on top of where the guards mount to the bodyshell
seen it on 5 now

it's because they have absolutely NO

I knew there would be some rust issues and so far it is pretty good. I am not too worried about what I have found, as I can fix it easily enough. I think Monty was in a far worst state when I got him than the Wagon is. So, yes I am pretty lucky.

Geoff. I am not sure of the paint code, but I do think its from this chart.

Now I don't know where you blokes live in relation to each other, but some pics of both this one & Cheater_5's VB110 together would be really good.

Actually, is VB210 & VB110 the right designation? The 4 door wagon used these codes I believe.

EDIT
Probably used some additional codes as a suffix to break down the different variants of VB110/ 210

Chris,

Cheater_5(Chris) is up the top of the north island and I am in the middle of the south island, so not much chance of a picture.

Tyrie,

Sorry mate but NO. I do know of another VB210 and its a five door model, but its a bit fcuked. Could ship that over to you.

As far as I know 2 door VB110 and 5 door VB110 used just that "VB" and the same goes for the VB210. But as always different countries sometimes had there own variations.

This is the best looking model for 120Ys by far in my opinion. I'm so jealous!

I am as good as gold..spent the day chopping up another LWB 1200 ute to repair my "quick" fixer upper ute !!! I am now responsible for destroying 4 of the little buggers in 12 months but I stripped all of them completely but I still feel a little guilty.
