I thought Lambo did their doors this way because the owners were self indulgent wankers who are more into themselves than the car and they are the sort of people who would in fact open their door with a car coming and lose the door. This way they can open the door at any time and say 'look at me, I have an expensive extension of my penis." Then the doors are perfectly safe and no horrific bills attached. I would imagine that a door would be worth roughly the price of a kitchen.

have you ever seen how wide lambos are? They actually build their doors like this so that you have some hope of parking them in Europe (where many streets and parking spaces aren't exactly wide).

Notice that the Gallardo which is much smaller than a Countach / Diablo / Murcielago does not have the scissor doors.

Not sure I like the scissor doors on the ute either (especially as they certainly serve no purpose on the 1200!) but A1 for effort though.
