Thanks to Datsun Soul

Silver is 2nd most popular color for new cars in the US. I'm surprised we don't see more silver paint on classic cars.

My Datsun 1200 Deluxe drag (2 door sedan) is going silver also, this is a neutral color if later on I decide to go graffics on the car.

Datsun Sunny Excellent 1400 had L14 engine. The Excellent body is slightly bigger than std 1200 body.

Thanks for the link, it has good pictures. Mikko, I've really enjoyed your 1200 site over the past couple of years.

The Excellent looks like the same size as the B110, except the front of the car looks slightly longer. They are the same width?

Those pics were cool.
Must punch punch guy in head in Japan who thinks that mirrors mounted halfway down the front guard are a good looking item though.

Oh yeah. I stared at SB1E.JPG fro a while. But can't figure out what it is meant to mean.
Anyone have any light to shed?

SB1E.JPG is the cover of a brochure or owners manual. The main point is that in Japan they got more choices. The B110 came with A12 in GX, GL or DX trim OR PB110 with 1400cc in GX, GL or DX trim choices.

That 1200 has quite a different grille to what i have seen before. Also on the front corner are those different indicators?

On the number plate I see 1400, as well as being 'excellent' do they have the A14? Did the excellent sedan have the same?

FWIW, I have read on a Japanese website that the 1400 Excellent had an L14.

Re: Silver 1200 Excellent 4-dr sedan
There is a nissan sunny excellent 1400 Datsun made in Japan for the Japanesse market(back in the seventies,1973-74-75),but the car i know, and have seen pictures of it,is a datsun 120Y(B210),with a different front grille and rear round taillights, and came with a L16 engine. In south Africa the same car was know as the Datsun 140Z, but both where B210(120Y) cars with different headlamps, tailights, and the gages were round instead of squared ,as in the 120Y(B210). I never saw a Datsun 1200 in the excelent version,in other words,a 1200 with a different engine, headlamps(grill, indicators)arangement, the tailights also look somewhat different. No surprise, the japanesse are known for using one car, changing minor details, and with another new name, sell the same vehicle in another part of the world.
That 1400 excelent is cool.I wish some more pics would be available, side ,front, etc.
Cheers
Jaime

Re: Silver 1200 Excellent 4-dr sedan
They made PB110 Excellents before the 120Y/B210 models. BTW, the 140Z is an insanely great looking car. The B210 was a great sales success in the US, but its not too respected now. The 140Z might have boosted Datsun's reputation just as the 240Z did. When a company is making money hand over fist like Nissan was in the '70s (as the top imported brand in the US) they often forget to think about the future ... Nissan let Toyota and Honda took much of their business.

Re: Silver 1200 Excellent 4-dr sedan
I agree with that comment. Nissan allowed toyota ,mazda and later honda to take over what nissan had with the 710, 510, 240Z, 280Z etc in the seventies. While toyota kept bringing performance into their cars, nissan went into the ultra econo ,no perf mode. If the B210 w/ a L engine,as was the Soth African 140Z (in Japan the sunny excelent 1400) things would have been better, also a excelent 1200 would have been great, although I think production of the 1200 faded in an earlier time.
Hope they reverse this trend, that is why honda is all around, little cars, affordable and fast, nissan can do better, and they should bring back the rear wheel drive as a base.
Jaime

Yes. The new Infiniti G35 is a good indication -- the first Skyline to sell in the US. Rear wheel drive and big-HP V6. Too bad it's so expensive.

I dream Nissan (or someone) will bring back a rear-wheel drive economy car ... it is cheaper to make front drive cars ...
