Sorry for digging this one up after so long. Does it mean that this engine has the same bottom end as the CA18DET? And would the heads then be a straight swap?

I think just space wise, and probably initial start up costs would be much cheaper if one was to fit one of these, more so here in ZA, the moment something has 16V or DOHC written on it, the price automatically doubles... The 4AGZE engines now cost R5995, you pay R3995 for a VG30 turbo...figure that one out for me... If you simply want a sedan/ute that was fun to drive but not all out crazy, then this wouldn't be a bad choice I presume?

Head is much narrower, so not so much trouble getting manifolds to fit, and making space for everything. But they are probably even more rare then the DET's...

I think the excessive price of GZE's is specific to those engines, they are expensive over here too.
