mmmm a perfect glove box lid....did any one know there are 2 difference castings for the plastic bit?
kinda annoying when you have a heap of one and need parts for the other

 Re: glove box
Whan you say two different lids, do you mean the lids up to September 1972 [no latch] & from October 1972 [with latch] or two versions of the one in the picture?

I hadn't really thought about it, but the glovebox lid on my 1972 1200 is different, it's like a mirror image of yours.

no there are 2 different castings for the no latch one, cant tell from the front

but this one doesnt have the diagonal supports on the back and the metal ark doover then goes ito the dash mounts vertical on this one as opposed to horizontal like all my other ones

and this one fits the metal frame without cracking the corners unlike all my other ones

 Re: glove box
The parts book shows only one part number for this non latching version, so it's possible that they were either supplied by different vendors, or there may have been a running change in this particular part.

The glove box door was only serviced as an assembly, the front cover was not available separately so there is no info on this part in my book.

Ever thought about updating to the latching version? After all, you don't want the door to pop open under extreme acceleration & have your gloves fall on the floor. [well it is a 'glove' box isn't it?]

All the ones here are latched, I had no idea some, don't they come open occasionally?

 Re: glove box
They were held in place only by a spring up untill Sept '72 here. The latch was used from October '72 production onwards & this is a quick way to tell if a 1200 is an early or later model.
The door does not normally come open unless the closing spring has broken & this spring seems to have been used on all 1200s

 Re: glove box
its never come open on me, and it has a bit of force holding it back....and they look a whole lot smoother than the latch type

out of my 4 1200s all of them have the non latch type, and this one is just that little bit different

edit: its this hinge thingo(bit that goes through the dash) thats broken on mine....and its what makes this one different to my others, its mounting screws are vertical not horizontal, cant tell unless you pull the plastic facia off though

 Re: glove box
this is the back of my new one, all my others have the 2 screw points for the hinge doover(far right) that goes into the dash mounted horizontally where this is vertical, and they have diagonal braces....you can sort of see where the bracing would be on this

 Re: glove box
They must have changed suppliers during the production run. As long as the skin and inside part of the glovebox door went together it would be OK.

Or maybe they changed the design. That last pic I don't see any reinforcing ribs on the inside, maybe they had problems and so made the design better.

Does the inside on yours have "cup holder" spots? Mine is hold on with little rivits, except for two little screws. and there is two tiny rubber bumpers.
