Where can you get these in the US?

Hi Sundat, sorry I didn't see this earlier. They are street legal for USA. These tires come out of the UK, so you can either buy them direct and pay much shipping, or buy them here and pay less shipping. Ends up being about the same.

I got them from the great Mini shop: http://www.minimania.com.

They require 5- or 6- inch wheels. So stock 4" wheels are "not recommended".

They also have 165/60-R12 tires which are half the price.

Minimania have other parts that fit Datsun 1200 (er, only the dual valve springs and tires...and the A-series tuning book...)

dad races an ausisie racing car and they run 205 wide 13's and i use dad's old tyres on my 1200 ute. they pay about $200 each for them new and you should be able to order them from any yokohama dealer. i can sell you a second hand set for $200 (4 tyres) with no flat spots and plenty of tread off an aussie racing car.

That's the same price here.

Actually it feels like I changed the rear diff gear from stock 3.9 to 4.4... it makes a noticeably difference: it launches easier, pulls the hills easier, and I can feel the extra torque. I haven't taken it over 65 mph yet -- it does that no sweat.

And now my speedometer is off 14.5% !!! It was only off 7.5% before.

What did they set you back?

Well spin my wheels, at 486mm diameter, these things are about 90mm or more than 3-1/2" smaller than the original 600x12's First gear must be a real stump puller, but highway cruise would be non existant any more.
I think you're going to need the 3.7 or even the 3.54 diff to handle these babys, & throwing in a 60 series 5 speed would be a good idea as well.

Yes, your speedo was geared to be pretty close with the original 600x 12's at 575mm diameter. [22-5/8"] I shudder to think what the RPM's are at an ACTUAL 65mph [105kph] instead of the INDICATED 65mph

Actually it's fine on the freeway. 60 mph/100kph (actual) is only about 4000 rpm. An A12 can do that all day long.

I'm keeping the 3.9. I like feeling some actual pushing force instead of "none" as before. Anyways, measuring against the 155-SR12 (stock size, we got optional radials here) it was 'only' three inches difference. 1st gear doesn't feel like a stump puller truck 4-speed, but feels great. Now it does take off with more authority even if I forget to give it slight throttle, it just pulls ahead smoothly.

If I can get a direct-5th transmission, I'll always have the right gear at the right time.

Bmax, as to cost, they are what you might expect, not cheap, four of them set me back more than most running 1200s sell for... but I do hope to get at least 5,000 miles from them grrrr.

LOL, 5,000 miles [8,000k] of fabulous traction, incredible handling, dazzling acceleration & wonderfull hillclimbing power, & all for the price of a deposit on a new house. Bargain.

As far as I can tell, the speedo gearing was made for the 600x12 tyres which makes the speedo fast with the factory optional tyres right from the start.
Were US models geared differently in the speedo drive?

4,000 rpm at highway cruise sounds like it's screaming to me & a 56A five speed wont change that.
Curiously, if all goes well [does it ever?] I just might have a 56A five speed that is surplus to my needs later this year & I have now learned that the first gear ratio is the same as the four speed.
