it actually doesn't look that bad in the flesh - this photo isn't exactly it's best angle. If you are in the market for a sport sedan, this is a great buy for $15K. You can always give it a lick of paint.

It's a very impressive little car on the more flowing tracks, but QLD Raceway really does not suit it - it's a horsepower track.

You mean this thing has such a great record in the wrong tracks? or is it the other way round? You mean Lakeside is the wrong track for it?

It's great on the more flowing tracks like Lakeside where he could carry alot of speed through the challenging and technical corners which were critical for good lap times - like the downhill approach to Shell corner onto the front straight, the carousel (sp?) and the whole back section under the Dunlop Bridge and through Hungry's.

But QR's full circuit is more like 3 drag races joined by a couple of stop-go corners, and it simply can't keep pace with the more powerful cars. QR's shorter circuits aren't much better. It really is a horsepower track, and although I don't go there much at all (it's a boring track) I'm sure his results would be nowhere near as good out there.

He goes well at the new long circuit at Morgan Park though, which has some great corners, particularly the fast sweeper over a crest through a cutting at the top of the hill!

When you describe the tracks and your experience through them I can almost imagine them like footage.
Im still surprised about his first outing at under 1 minute at lakeside with standard shocks and drummies all round. That wouldnt have been a ballsy effort but I dont know the track so cant say anymore just that to read in his words about when he pulled out the original shocks after that outing and they had no resistance whatsoever and accompanied by the steel drums made me laugh in disbelief.

A while back on his webpage about racing and much like his resume on racing.
He seems to have upgraded everything now but I wonder what hp and improvement if any hes made since gong from stock suspension and drums. Its scary isnt it?
Then again an ex-nissan bathurst mechanic told me the 1000 outbraked even the alfas at bathurst with some green grabber pad compound.

I find it very difficult to believe a sub 60 sec car could stay on the circuit with drum brakes. Maybe it was just that it still had drums on the rear?

got the url? wouldn't mind having a look at his site

I wasn't going to say anything about the suspension on Gary Hamilton's 1000 in case my memory was playing tricks on me, but the photos of it on the QRDA site that D gave us above confirmed it - that car still uses the transverse leaf and OEM A arms and everything in the front end!

And this is a Sport Sedan where anything goes! Unbelievable how well it handles for such a simple but well sorted vehicle. should never have sold my 1000 coupe...
