Now you should just get a decent sized battery, and run a full loss system without the alternator. That is if the regulations allow it. If they do have a problem with having no alternator, have someone rewind the alternator so that is only generates something like 5 amps or so. The less the better, but enough to keep the motor running, should a smart @ss official remove one of the battery poles to check that it does generate...

a Few kw's and faster rpm pickup right there for ya...

thanks bert.

Have you used aliminium??

I asked about what to use, I I was told to get some stainless and use that. I got a piece of 4mm stainless sheet, and my poor jiggy jig couldnt hack it.!!

Even the grinder had issues with it. Not surprising really seeing as stainless is so hard.

I am gonna have a go at one from aliminium this break. and Ill post the results.

Do you think that you will get any restriction in the flow seeing as there is less space in the pump area now, or is that negated by the fact that there isnt a impeller in there now?

Hi Reub,Stainless!what where they thinking! It's as hard as Christ's feet.No just 5mm alloy plate purchased as an off cut from a local supplier cheap as.
Coolant flow has not been compromised at all,in fact we still have a thermostat(with the guts removed) to slow the flow a bit and give the radiator a chance to do it's job.

The Davies Craig water pump works a treat,i operate it manually for the racing car along with the fan,but i would have it on a thermostat for a roady.

Radiator is a Hyundai Excel aluminium jobby, but you have to loose the battery carrier.
It took 18 months to finally get the cooling system spot on running to 8500 all day, seems a shame to be selling it all now.
Cheers Bert
Edit:We must run an alternator here(regs)

so what about adding a larger alterntor pulley? did you change that at all? would be quite a suiteable upgrade for my car down the track

Littledarkone, not sure what you are asking here and we are getting abit off the topic. We went to an electric pump to solve a water pump cavitation problem and pick up a fraction more H.P.for free.
With regard to pulley sizes my god son(an aeronautical engineer)did the pulley gearing computations and found to slow the pump enough would require radical size changes and cost out weighing purchasing an electric pump
Hope this helps

 Re: water pump blank
you're right that was off topic, that was more to do with the alternator.
But you know how if you have a smaller wheel turning a larger wheel the larger is slower and in the case of an alternator it's not drawing as much power at any given engine speed.
That seems like a more cost effective way to me.

Anyway about the water pump, is it fixed into the engine bay or is it just acting as a conector for the rad hose

It's not fixed to the engine bay,it's held and located in a very small space by the hoses, this is a B10 remember.
Your right about the pulley gearing principal, but as i said we found the water pump to be the most efficient and cost effective method.

Here you go Reub, save some coin with a jigsaw, drill and file and about 2 beers.Use a gasket as a template and centre punch the holes before drilling to stop "wander"when drilling alloy.
Give it a nice polish for a road car engine bay.
This is the B10 racecar
