Nice atempt at Africaans Sidedraght. At lease we can see that the Australian members of Datsun1200 are trying to speak our language. Yes we did get the joke, I was also just yanking your chain. At lease we could understand your Africaans, there are some South Africans, that make a complete hash of the africaans languge.

All half ton and 1 ton pick-up trucks, are called Bakkies in South Africa. It does not matter what make it is Dastun, Toyota, Ford, Opel its still a Bakkie.
Bakkie is a Afrikaans word which means: Small bowl.

Utility is used in around the world quite a bit so I dont think its a Australian word.
Well it does not matter as UTE, Pick-up or Bakkie, its all has the same meaning.

sidedraught, got a bee in your bonnet mate?

As I had it, ute is used for something where the load bin is attached to the cab, where as pick-up is used for something where they are separate units...

I think the official description for something that in total, that is with load, will weigh less than 3500kg's is LDV as in Light Delivery Vehicle. Vehicles in this class is what is normally referred to as bakkies in ZA...

I was just trying to make a humorous cross cultural reference by swapping Australia for South Africa and Bakkie for ute.
