 Re: 7.6 second Datsun 1200
Gee, I got put the search engine to the memory to go back far enough, but the fuel rails in the 70's, running huge stroker 392 hemis with nitro & lotsa Detroit Deisel huffer boost were pulling these times.
But they were dedicated drag chassis,[not modified passenger cars] with V8 engines & 180" wheelbases.
This feller does it in a passenger bodied car, with a 90.6" wheelbase & a FOUR cylinder engine.

They used to get about 200mph back then, but his slower 177mph speed tells me that he REALLY got with the program in the early part of the run in order to overcome the losses with the lower speed at the top end.
Not too shabby for a car with it's engine over the front axle [pretty much]. Not too damn shabby at all.

The downside?
No nitro fumes to make the crowds eyes water, no earth shaking & pounding under your feet, no zoomies with a 2 foot flame & liquid nitro spraying into the air & no V8 noise at 200 decibels, .... just efficient 7 second times.
Damn Japanese technology.

EDIT
For those too lazy to look it up, it has an SR20 & for the $45,500 asking price, it really is a lot of fast for the money.
I suspect that very few people could build a developed & sorted 7 second car from scratch for that kind of money. Very few indeed.

On the for sale add it said it when 7.56.

I've got a black and white video of top fuel cars from the early 60's they ran low 7s at 210mph crazy to watch the smoke the tyres out pass 330 feet.

Back when someone with a shed out the back could win a nhra top fuel event.

Chris is on the money. 1.9 tenths quicker, (than the rayglass) with only 1mph faster trapspeed. That is one well set up machine!
!.9 tenths doesn't sound like a lot, but once you start going this fast you measure each tenth in thousands of dollars.
The Rayglass datsun has been fore sale too. I think they were asking $75000NZD.
The faster one is only costing around $59K when you convert it into kiwi dollars. Thats some pretty sharp buying!
A local guy has bought the old rayglass engine, and is putting it into a fully tubbed 1200 wags. It has A tubular front chassis too.

Rayglass 1200 Coupe hit 7.77 seconds.

Oh yes, there is a video of the Kako Racing 1200 Coupe here. It is a most impressive drag race video: 7.60-second Pass

And the car is for sale: 7-second Orange Coupe For Sale

 Re: 7.6 second Datsun 1200
Steidel Racing went to OZ, was it for AusRotaries 2006? Their 1200 is slightly faster (7.5 secs). But this one is a piston engine (SR20).

I think both race teams are from Puerto Rico, USA.

Did you see the video? It looks super fast. Most drag videos don't ... this one is different, kind of wavering/floating on the pavement and all over before you can register what's going on.
