Re: Datsun skyline In Australia, in the early years, they were ALL badged as Datsun, small fours, larger fours & all six's Nissan also offered a line of cars that were seen as a separate car company's offerings.
The Nisan Cedric would be an example of this. Actually the story goes that when Nissan first announced the Cedric at a press conference in the early/mid 60's, one reporter allegedly said "Cedric? That's a poofters [homosexual] name." Cool as you like, the Japanese man from Nissan asked if there were many of these in Australia. Another wag in the crowd cried out "yair, we got thousands of 'em" The Nissan man promptly replied "We should sell a lot of cars then"
They didn't, it really was regarded as a poofters name & real Aussie men wanted nothing to do with 'poofs' [& be laughed at by their mates] but surprisingly, I came upon an unrestored 4 cyl. 60's Cedric filling with fuel in a service station about a week back. I hadn't seen one in over 30 years. He was a Victorian on his way to Queensland & I wished him luck, I figured he would need it in the case of a breakdown.
It was years later that the two brand names 'blended' with many models being badged as Nissan Datsun for years.

Re: Datsun skyline Thanks guys. I learn something new here every day. Datsun in Australia, Nissan in Japan, and none-at-all in America (we never got the big ones until around 2002).

Re: Datsun skyline Why do you think that? I have factory brochures from Japan, the larger cars don't says "Datsun" anywhere in them, while the smaller ones do say Datsun. This seems to include the luxury models as even the PB110 didn't brand as Datsun, while the B110 was Datsun.
Check out the EarlyDatsunHistory web site and you'll see what I mean.
Remember, in 1932 when Nissan bought DAT, the Datsun in 1932 was the "small" car in the line in the DAT line. For the most parts, trucks were badged "Nissan" and cars were badged "Datsun". About 1960 as the Nissan-Austin era was finishing up they finally introduced some luxo cars and badged them Nissan. I think maybe the 1960 Gloria was the first "Nissan" car but don't have any hard data.

Re: Datsun skyline Does it really say Datsun? -- that name was for the smaller cars. Bigger cars like the Skyline should say "Nissan".
