it would to a fair bit of oil returning when on a race track I bet being at the back corner of the rocker cover pointing down, but it would also be allowing blow by up to the rocker cover as well to get out the pcv valve on the inlet which is plumbed off the same rocker cover.

its just a vent from the crank to the drivers side rocker cover isnt it....couldnt see it going anywhere else on my engine

Yep definitely just a vent from what I have researched too, daveman and pigdog are on the money.

Oh yum. Look at all the rust scale in that engine! I hope you give it a real good clean out and use top notch coolant in it (Genuine Toyota is the best IMO).

As for the crank breather... It looks like it could be but im no CA expert.

hate to be picky but the oil pump is nowhere near there, it's just the adapter for the filter.

Hate to admit your right too.....just used to engines where the oil pump and oil filter are in the same place....
