Stevo I cant quite tell by the pics but is the porting really ruff I mean rougher than the usual needed finish??
I know a slight rough finish atomises the fuel better specially with big 45 webers but with this pic it looks like (with all due respect!) a port job done after 4 slabs of beer or 2 dozen johnny walkers. It misses all the water passages fair enough but maybe hes done so many of them that this one was just done quickly for the sale. Its common to find many race cars without the engine which got them the superhero status. Last years datto 1600 winning sports sedan that beat steve newings stanza by one point and never finished 1st in any race but consistantely came 3 or 4th through the year at the hands of rupert rodrigues was sold to andrew moffat (alan moffats son) and it had many problems (the engine and the rest of the car) but the comparable factor with yours (cause your car is really a work of art and wit) is that the engine was totally different to the race one.
It could be the photos but if it isnt then you look at ferals 40mm inlet head a13 and you see the difference in finish and each port has that exact cloned finish.
Any other views or reasons..??

D, The photos are not the best quality as they were taken with a phone-cam. Everyone I have shown the porting job to, including two head shops have been very impressed.

As for the engine, I have no doubts as to it bona fides as it a) Still has the CAMS seals intact and b) has the engine number as quoted in the CAMS log book.......??

Jeff doesn't do anything less than 100% - he's a craftsman and this probably looks a little sus because of the photo quality and angle. This car especially was done right so if Stevo says he still has the original motor then it will be a work of art. I'll try and get some pictures of my JTS head - there is no doubting the quality of Jeff's work when you see that. Feral's A13 is a masterpiece too - appears smoother than Jeff's finish.

There is still a lot of debate between builders over smooth finish and rough finish ports. Rougher finish ports seem to win these days. The argument goes that rougher surfaces create micro sized turbulent layers on the port boundary that actually helps flow. Another claimed benefit is helping to keep fuel atomised at lower engine speeds.

The head for (EDIT B120) Dat's engine was done by a company who specialise in A series heads for mini sprinters and also rally cars and he uses the wire brush rough finish and is certain it helps make better horsepower especially on the alcohol engines.

Personally I cant understand why they dont sit around and drink the alcohol ??? Can anyone enlighten me?
