There is still a lot of debate between builders over smooth finish and rough finish ports. Rougher finish ports seem to win these days. The argument goes that rougher surfaces create micro sized turbulent layers on the port boundary that actually helps flow. Another claimed benefit is helping to keep fuel atomised at lower engine speeds.

B120) Dat's engine was done by a company who specialise in A series heads for mini sprinters and also rally cars and he uses the wire brush rough finish and is certain it helps make better horsepower especially on the alcohol engines.
Personally I cant understand why they dont sit around and drink the alcohol
