This is my first effort at posting a photo. This is my new diff to sit behind my CA18. It's a borgwarner type out of an R31 pintara which means I get the rear discs aswell:) I got it all cut and made to fit for $450 which I reckon was a bargain.

$450 is a blo ody bargain!! considering that people are advertising 1200 ute diffs for $300.

Yeah it was cheap but that didn't include the price of the diff itself. Factor in anywhere from $150 to $300 for a complete diff disc to disc on top of the $450.

I paid $250 for the original diff so it cost $700 all together. Ute diffs have been known to go for up to $500-600 so it's a little bit more for a lot more assurance.

hey,
pintara axle assembly and skyline ones look exactly the same from the outside and have the same brake set up but the axels and centers are different.
skyline = 28 spline and PHAT axles
pintara = 25 spline axles and puny axles

so i hope you got a 'line diff hey.

 Re: My new diff
Work was done by Ballarat Driveline Services.

All the invoice says is that housing was modified as per sample given (H145 diff supplied) and axles resplined to suit.

I don't know if the splines got re-hardened. Probably not.

I didn't mind taking it to ballarat because I have relatives there who eventually brought the diff back to melb for me when they came down.

Whats the story behind why the other diff was cut up?
The price is definately cheap.

The outer parts of the housing of the H145 have been welded into the Borg Warner housing so that all the mounts are exactly the same. At the outer flanges the Borg Warner bits have been attached so the bearings and seals fit over the axles. It's a big mix and match but it bolts in like an H series diff with all stock U bolts etc.

Is the Pintaras "puny axles" size the reason why the 1200 axles housing ends where able to fit?

As for puny axles, Im sure these axles are strong enough to handle almost double the abouse of h145.

I still wonder why the whole pintara rear end couldnt just be shortened with disks and all and just use the 1200 mountings?
Now you will have to use 1200 bearings and not the bigger pintara ones?

You mean like this?

[url=][url=http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=640]

This is basically the same diff as above but original housings was shortened instead of the cut and weld of the h145 housings.

The track width was shortened to 1405mm

Looks like it was more work than if they were to just shorten the one diff and provide bigger U bolts and new shackle plates.
Definate bargin when you look at the work involved. And a bargin is definately what we always want

Sorry if it sounds like Im baggin it, im seriously not!
It seems more work to get what you got done and that it should have cost more.
I want to get the same kind of work done with a different diff.

I want to get my diff shortened and mated to skyline axles with skyline or pintara disc brake setup.
As in the pic it has an finned alloy housing and sump with fins at the bottom.
It has adjustable torque bias and clutch pack LSD.

 Re: My new diff
An old pic I know but thought I'd shed a little more light on it. It turns out that it was a 28 spline skyline diff after all. About the housing, it still uses the large bearings as the outer flanges are welded on from the BW diff. The sections with original mounts are from the H145 and the 28 spline axles do fit through these sections. I guess what the diff guy achieved was a genuine "bolt in" diff upgrade.

Not sure if the pintara diff is the same as the skyline diff (pretty sure its not but...), the R31 Skyline single spinners can be replaced with the LSD centre quite easily and readily.

Daveman: Why did they have to cut up your old diff housing?

 Re: My new diff
Hehe! The bricks are because of my lack of jack stands! My friends call me "safety Dave" but I swear the bricks are pretty solid. The diff isn't LSD but before I went through with it I was instructed by the bloke that did it that the LSD centres out of the old falcon BW diffs will fit. Also the old diff got cut up because he welded the parts of the old H145 with the brackets for the leafs in the new housing. It means I can still use the original U bolts and brackets.

Hey, nice bricks.

Did the diff man shorten the axles by cutting & welding, or were the originals from this rear axle assembly resplined?
