Re: Seam Welded This is the way to do it right, no flex as flex is the enemy. For rallye cars that venture off road different story as you can crack rails from what I heard.
This is looking to be a beautiful project well done Sam.

Re: Seam Welded what about launching of ripple strips? there's some pretty brutal ripple strips out/drop offs on the edges of roads, track car chassis' get heaps of stress too i would think? i would have just welded it all but i can the point about leaving some flex

Re: Seam Welded stitch welding is no good fi ur planing on smoothing over as the day the car does twist a little is the day ull be cracking bog and repainting if ur going to weld it, fully weld it why go half hearted more weld the better

Re: Seam Welded Yeh, That's what I thought, as fully welding it might put more stress on the thinner metal around the join. Apparenly this is the reson reason they do it for race cars ( so there is still a small amount of flex ) But I was speaking to a couple of guys that have smoothed their engine bays, and this is the way they said to do it. Oh well, It's done now...
