Re: areas of inconsistancy in Knife edging? The photograph does not properly exhibit the extent of work as the contrast is obviously excessive and the light not uniform. Considering the image itself is no larger than 60kb I wouldn’t expect anyone of any (feasible) technical knowledge to make any judgment on workmanship, not just yet anyway. The manner in which the crank was machined also plays a slight trick on the eye and this particular camera position is certainly unflattering to that detail.
In terms of the actual machining, the die has not been passed across the specified areas (to be removed) in a direct straight line, instead it has been moved across in a curved manner which creates the illusion that I suspect you are seeing in the photo. This crank is different to the Knife Edged items you guys are so used to seeing in that its shape across the face of the lobes (and all other machined planes) is distinctly (& significantly) convex which is the detail that I insist this photograph has excluded.
