Hitachi Heat Riser ddgonzal 2011/2/13 23:06 Tell a friend 4874 7 0.00 (0 votes)
The heat stove valve is on the exhaust manifold. It deflects exhaust heat to the underside of the intake manifold during the first 30 seconds or more of starting a cold engine. Result: quicker starts, more efficient running.

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser today i just found out that this heat riser is not working because the spring is not in it's position. i pull the spring and put it on the pin and now when i rev the engine it's moving. what effect does this have on the engine before and after i put the spring back?

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser Worst case it can allow the flap to close which will strangle the engine.
If the spring keeps jumping off, then the shaft is probably loose. Inspect it carefully.

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser ok, so i've driven my pick up from our house to my daughters school and straight to work plus traffic for 25 minutes. while the engine still running i opened the hood and noticed that the heat riser is still in it's position when the engine was cold and it only moves when i rev the engine.
is this normal? one thing i notice is that when i start the engine this morning there is a big improvement on how fast the engine idles not like before it would take the engine 3 minutes for it to idle smooth.

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser So it is an improvement? That is good to hear.
The valve should open smoothly and not require revving the engine. Perhaps the shaft is worn, and is not turning smoothly.

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser yes. i guess the shaft is worn out but when i move it with my hand while the engine is not running i can feel it turning smoothly. maybe the bi-metallic spring is not getting enough heat?
the photo above is somewhat the same as on my engine.
would it be a problem if the shaft only moves if i rev the engine?

Re: Hitachi Heat Riser No worries if the engine runs good. But if the shaft is worn the spring may jump off the shaft periodically.
