In some ways..it certainly looks like a RWD..I know we already know it's from a 4WD U12.

But the manifold looks really similar, but notice that the thermostat housing on the front of the engine (take it easy 1200RC) is facing the other way..just like the FWD engines.

Interesting.

yeah - must be a fwd motor? that won't make things easy for the engine mount on that side...

There is not much choice here in the states
as no Nissan here came with the CA18DET
the closest thing is a Pulsar fwd ca18de..
My engine came with the awd transmission..
but I think mounting it sideways would be
harder.. :)

Sorry fellas, not a FWD, its a U12 AWD

FWD use the U11 and U12 in most conversions, most fwd nissan boxes bolt up using a ca18de flywheel.

its only a matter of mounts and which way the exhaust faces, and in my opinion thats no great big deal.

 Re: test fit 2
im guessing it wont, but i have to ask, did you try fitting it the other way to see if 4wd is possible?

would be interesting

i reckon once my ca18det conversion happens (eventually)

the next step would be 4wd

Really doesn't matter if it's fwd, rwd or awd, because no det stock exhaust manifold will clear on a lhd car. At least the awd version has the intake plenum facing the right way, as some fwd motors face the opposite direction.

with the other side of the manifold..
I just swapped them..
