hi, i bought this setup off go the datto,

unfortunately due to my broken engine mount rubber (didnt realise till too late), the manifold cracked

i am now rebuilding it with an a-15 and injection

search for "a15ett", there is pictures and and a few threads about it, feel free to ask questions also

personally, i dont foresee any problems at all with shortening the water pipe. All your doin is diverting the water in another direction, and it all ends up in the same place.
