I may own this beauty tomorrow. It is a U320 1965 model. Pretty cheesy huh!

Feral
I know that the early Bluebird engine was based on the Austin A40 unit, but i don't know about this one. Was it the same base engine, or was it a diferent design.

I remember that Datsun took the A40 engine & did 3 things to it. They stopped the oil leaks, they fixed the unreliability problems, & they made it go well, something the Brits could never do.

No, it's not an A series. The Datsun 1000 [B10] of '67 was the first to get them.

I saw one of these a few years back at a wreckers, it was a single cab and had a flat wooden tray.
Feral how will you go for parts for this?

They originally were fitted with a J12 engine. In the interests of reliability and availability of some power this would get a CA18DE I think.

I would like to fit a CA18DE without changing much body work if possible. This would allow it to be retrofited with a J12 or J15 engine to return to original.

They have a full chassis so fitting should be easy.

Didn't the Austin 1800 have a ute of very similar style?
This will keep you busy in your spare time.

If you did it properly it could be such a cool car. lowered on some old style (maby american) mags with a modern engine, keep al the chrome work, it would be such a cruzer!!

So, are you going to keep the original engine or put something else in?
This isn't A series is it?
