The 1200GX had an oval port head. This would be an aftermarket option for a standard 1200 head.

Thats right, the GX had an oval port head, but the SSS had a round port one.

Lordy, it looks like it would benefit from a support out at the carb flange to take some of the load from the stud in the middle of the ports.

I believe that the 1200 SSS used the round port head, but what was it's induction system. Could this be for the SSS.

Wouldn't it have Hitachi SU's like the GX? This manifold was made by an American company called Weiand. It was strictly a high performance aftermarket piece.

yep, looks like a NZ 1200SSS manifold to me, or a lynx equivalent thereof.
Didnt they actually have the 38mm delortos...?

No, you're right, 40's.

The 38's came with the Honda Civic ZR, which was a NZ built special to chase the 1200SSS. Also very cool and collectable these days!

sorry to dig up an old thread, but was there a oval port SSS? I think Dodgeman is only talking about a12s?

I picked up a twin weber manifold with oval ports and 'SSS' cast on the bit that goes between runners 2 and 3. Was just curious as to its origin.

edit: looking again it appears to be designed for 45mm carbs, are they all like this?

As far as I know, the only Datsun SSS models to use an A series engine were the NZ built 1200 SSS & the 120Y SSS, both of which used a round port head on their respective 1200 & A12 engines.

Did I miss any?

Think you will find it is an aftermarket manifold similar to JTS, I think they were made in Melbourne
