The head is off Lobster 2003/12/14 7:03 Tell a friend 3052 15 0.00 (0 votes)
Well, I got the head off. I don't like my car being like this. I think I may cry. |

Re: The head is off Why didnt you remove the coolant drain plug from the block first? It's easy enough to get to with a 12mm socket & prevents this kind of mess.

Re: The head is off 2332owner On my early 1200 block it is located somewhere between the left side engine mount & the rear welch / freeze / core plug on that side. It would be obscured by the two center pipes in the photo.
I could hardly imagine that it was deleted in the later models, but stranger things have happened

Re: The head is off How about just removing a heater hose from the block????,I believe the drain bolt is on left hand side directly under the middle welsh plug

Re: The head is off The heater hose removal would drain the head & this is probably OK for head removal, but plug removal [if fitted] will drain the whole block, which may be preferable for engine removal.

Re: The head is off I'll go check in the morning. Thanks... I probably would have never known. When I pulled the old motor out I just disconnected the bottom radiator hose.

Re: The head is off Why not just remove the lower radiator hose that would drain both then aswell yes?

Re: The head is off Can anyone confirm the existance of a cylinder block drain plug in the late model [post '73] "A" series engines? If it exists, it might be obscured by the center exhaust pipes in the photo. I know that the earlier ones have them.

Re: The head is off Hi Dodgeman
To reply to your question. My dad and I overhauled my 1977 1200GX's engine about 30 000km ago. There is no drainplug on the block that I know of. We removed the screw that is located on the radiator to drain radiator fluid and then the bottom hose from the radiator to remove the radiator and extra radiator fluid. As far as i know the A14 utilities that is still being made here also does not have the drainplug on the engine block. I might be wrong.

Re: The head is off My A15 and others I have seen don't have the drain plug. I have only seen them myself on early A12 engines.

Re: The head is off The drain plug is nice -- it gets out twice as much coolant as the lower radiator hose will.

Re: The head is off my 76 A14 has one. i pulled it when i did my head swap. it helped get some sediment out that was in the back corner of the block too, as the water didnt have to flow all the way to the front of the engine to get it out.
