Wouldn't using an orbital sander be a better way to get the old paint off??? I've just been brought up to use an orbital, so I may just have a biased opinion

you could use an orbital, but be careful when using one on thin guage steel, as the heat produced from the vibrating paper could destort the metal. just a tip
