This kit was under $80 AU and is a great improvement over the original bulbs in the 1200's. You should use a relay unit as well(or two) so u dont blow a fuse. Very simple installation, they fit straight in. This one shown is from a Narva brand halogen headlamp conversion kit and was purchased from mike @ Repco.
Massive increase in visibility while driving at night. Even has fittings for  park lamp globes, but the globes weren't supplied in the kit.

7" (178mm) Kit - H4 High/Low beam Flat Glass. (compared to the rounded factory 1200 ones) The kit uses inserts. So instead of having to replace the entire bulb and surrounding unit u just get a new bulb. Halogen bulbs can be purchased cheaply and if you really want u can buy white/blue lights like you see on some of the more annoying new cars..

I agree upgrading to an H4 kit really improves visibilty and makes it more fun to drive at night since there's no more squinting. Are these available over there? -

They're made by Raybrig and are a direct replacement similar to any other H4 conversion kit but the lenses are completely clear and the reflector does all the beam shaping kinda like newer cars. They're really great but a little more expensive more like $80 US.

I have not seen the ones that you describe, & show, but i have used Hella inserts for many years. They're not cheap, but they ARE good.
As you well know, any headlight upgrade in these little Datsuns should be a two part deal, as in
1. Fit a relay system. This will perk up even stock lights.
2. Fit whichever headlights you wish.

If done in this order, all will be a source of joy. If not, it'l be tears before bedtime from dissapointment. This upgrade is money well spent.

I agree definitely go with a relay. Mine was equipped from the factory with one but my El Camino wasn't and when I added one it was an incredible difference.

I see them on Ebay quite often for really cheap. They also have provisions for parking lights. I can't vouch for the quality of those units though. Unfortunately the Raybrig ones are designed for driving on the left otherwise I could send you a set. Here's a link for some but they look to be Japanese market units so the beam would probably be wrong??:

There's a ton more just search for diamond cut. These are way cheaper than they're available here.

 H4 100/55 needed those relays badly & LED blinker/parkers
arite it was really bad not using relays with these 100watt lamps as i had a few difficulties in the fuse area with blown fuses and the cable frying on the back of the fuse box. i went back to 55/60 globes until it had 2 relays put in. had it done in orange nsw for $70 ! included 2 new relays, 1 cut off switch, 1 30amp fuse and all the labour / cabling.

use relays ! now it is awesome. id say these 100/55 H4 lamps are at least 70% better (brighter) on high beam that 55/60 H4 lamps.

as for the LED's - ive found lots of very nice looking LED lights avail at Jaycar(.com.au) which im going to put onto the 1200 in due time. ill prolly post an article on it if they are better than normal blinker and parking lights. on new Jaguar's etc which use LED's, the lights look amazingly clear and bright. also they will probably never need to be replaced again if you change to LED's.

Will you still need a relay if you only use 55/60W H4's ?

anb008 a relay isn't required for only 55/60w globes, but it will help alot. This is because the relay bypasses the switch and sends power straight to the lights. Since the switch is a few years old now its contacts will be warn and be causing resistance to the power flow to the lights. Its agood idea to put new earths on each light also.
Every bit helps to make the lights work their best.
Cheers steve

i can vouch for the NARVA kit it is great i have it on my 120Y. but i have no relay what does the relay do to improve the lighting? i also have a set of Narva driving light i plan on putting in the small light pods on my grille, they came with a relay in the box. you see on new cars where the relays plug in, can you buy the plug plates unmarked so you can make your own similar to the Blade fuse conversion for old glass fuse boxes?

I personally recomend a relay on even a stock vehicle.

I place the relay near the radiator on the front panel if room allows & i use a spade terminal in the old headlight plug to provide power to the switching side of the relay. I then run a nice heavy duty cable from the starter terminal so as to get full battery power from within the engine bay to the relay. It's a good idea to mount the relay on the same side as the starter to minimise cable length & simplify the wiring.

You now only need to make up a new harness with new plugs for the bulbs to make it all work. You would be amazed just how much this will improve even boring old sealed beams, which should be discarded in favor of QH types as soon as the amazement subsides. Make absolutely sure that your earth connections are good & have cabling at least as heavy as the largest feed line to the bulb.

Make sure that the beam is correctly adjusted so as not to bring a dose of road rage down upon your head.

I did this to my son's 120Y with 55/60's & you could swear it was like driving behind a searchlight,............ almost.
