this appears to be a midway between 1200-120y exlnt where as other pictures show 1400 exellents to be very similar to 1200 (only diffrent bonnet and lights) notice the rear window opens with boot, wish 1200's did that. what do you reckon about putting round lights on the back of your next 1200 project?

Round lights on a 1200 would be very cool, although I wouldn't use a different color back (as in the 120Y picture here). In the US, multiple round tailights are a Chevrolet or Corvette styling pattern.

Another idea would be to extend the stock-type rear lights clear across the back.

I was actually thinking more of the appearance of a one-piece tail light. The Shelby Mustang rear lights are like the California Special Mustang (two separate lights, but very wide):

California Special Mustang
Shelby Mustang
Come to think of it, having sequential lights (turn signals that flash outside, middle, then inside bulbs repeatedly) would be very cool.

Here is a picture of a Nissan treatment (although this is more chrome than I prefer):

California 510
California 510 #2
Is this a factory 510 JDM taillight? I've never seen one like this before ...

Yes indeed it's a 120Y :) But cooler.

I saw one of these rear panels for sale at the Datsun Shasta meet in 1999. The same dude had a Datsun catalogue book with pictures of all the Datsun models. It wasn't for sale though.
