Yup, I agree with 2332, there are alot of cool things in this pic. Nice work.
Is that brass thing near the airfilter a temp sensor?

is the temp sensor the piece between the thermostat housing and the Head?
and is that for the thermo fan?

It's for the Haltech. It needs it to change the fuel injector pulse widths depending on engine temp. Also uses an air sensor and throttle position sensor to manipulate pulse widths once the maps are set up. Helps with cold starts etc etc etc
Thermo fans are also switched by the haltech.

gezze thats a big radiator and thermo fan!
gezze must keep it perfect temp? does the thermo kick in much?

B120dat,
The radiator is out of a Pulsar, cant remember which model. I used a porta-power to press the inner guards out about 4mm to fit it into that little space. Does an excellent job of keeping it cool and weight is acceptable. Thermo fans are set to come in at around 80 degrees C but I use an override switch to keep it on all the time when I'm in stage.

Great looking engine bay! Lots of good ideas in there. Hope you don't mind but I'll probably be stealing your water temp idea.

 Re: more EFI
2332owner - no worries, you can use the same idea. I put it there because it seemed like the logical place. As close to the thermostat as possible so response times are low and readings are accurate based on thermostat movements(opening or closing etc). If you do it the same way, you have to offset the centreline of the sensor compared to the thermostat otherwise the two interfere with each other. You dont want the sensor head disturbing the water flow too much.

Team_Dat,
The cold air box is made from 2.4mm aluminuim sheet, the only Lexan (high temp perspex) is in the centre of the lid and the vents at the back to cool the inlet plenium. There is a 20mm hole in the bottom to drain it whenever we do watercrossings in a rally. Idea is to totally isolate the incoming airstream from heatsoak from the engine bay.
I will put a more detailed photo up in the photo section because I dont know how to link it to this post

Paul.

what throttle body is that and how hard is it to fit, are you using the factory computer, car looks good, lots of effort put into it,

i have to ask why the drop tank?

and a comment, i sometimes wonder, for the reason you sort of mention above, if it is better to keep the mechanical fan as it provides a lot more airflow over the motor, therefore cooling inlets and blowing away exhaust heat etc etc, still im putting a thermo on at the moment

 Re: more EFI
1200rc,
Computer is Haltech. The throttle body is off a commodore and the manifold is very much modified inside and out. It just depends on how much effort you want to put in if you want to do things this way. It is a lot of work and I'm fussy so I design and manufacture everything myself.
Drop tank is not a full fabrication but a 4mm thick stone guard around 1200 tank because I was sick of replacing the fiberglass stone protection after almost every event. This has done a far better job of protecting the tank.
I dont believe in running standard fans on little motors, they take power away because they are driven by the engine so thermofans are the go. Plus its possible to enable them at a given engine temp by using the temp maps in the Haltech.
Yes it's the cold air sensor head that can be seen in the cold air box, it has been moved from the inlet tube to there because when I was dataloging the haltech I found that it was suffering from heatsoak at the end of stage when car was sitting at idle. Everyone seems to be looking very closely
Thanks for the complements.

Cheers,

Paul.

A jet?
It's a big round thing with wings that sucks air, dust, birds & slow jackrabbits in one end, & belches flame, heat, & a lot of noise from the other end.
It's prime purpose is to convert as much Kerosene as possible into noise, heat & pollution in the shortest possible time.

Sunny,
The fuel pressure reg is the one that came with the fuel rail, it's been modified to provide higher fuel pressures so maybe looks a bit different to standard regulator set up.

Thanks Benny,
It's the off season so I gave the rally car a wash and took a heap of photos.
