Re: D/Mans coupe damage 1 UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE The whole front has been striped to the bare body. The radiator support panel & front apron have been removed & the chassis was checked for true. It was found to be a quarter inch out of alignment to the passengers side, & the passenger door pillar was pushed about a sixteenth of an inch [or less] back, causing a minor door misalignment.
The chassis has been pulled back into exact alignment & the door is now aligned dead straight & closes perfectly. The crunched section of the inner guard [fender] has been removed & a replacement section from a donor coupe has been installed. The new radiator support panel & front apron will be fitted within the next few days.
I will try to get some photo's ASAP.

Re: D/Mans coupe damage 1 Interesting system on this Datsun. There is a hole through the fender well for the suspension part to go through. I never saw a D1000 suspension .Obviously not a Mc Pherson, so it is independent spring /shock, more like american cars, a'm I right? I never saw a D1000 in US, I assume those nice cars never made it here. late______________________

Re: D/Mans coupe damage 1 Jamiecidpedro The front suspension in the 1000's is a conventional wishbone design that uses a transverse leaf spring. The spring is secured in the front crossmember & carries no structural loads other than weight bearing loads. The ends rest on a rubber block on the upper face of the lower wishbone & this system is quite compact & works well in a small, lightweight, low cost car. It uses conventional design telescopic shock absorbers.
DatA15. The damage is not anywhere as bad as you seem to think & i have a front-cut from another coupe, so we will unstitch the spot welds on it to allow us to recover the parts needed to repair my car. This will include the inner guard, the Radiator Support Panel & the front apron. I have a new RSP if i need to use it, but using the unstitched parts looks to be the go.
The chassis is completely undamaged & i have a new front guard, new headlight rim & a new blinker. I also have a pair of new headlight buckets & a replacement wiring harness from the front-cut body section. I still seek a bonnet, a front bumper & a grille. Even lightly damaged examples will be a big help.

Re: D/Mans coupe damage 1 The dark staining is from the smoke generated by the melting plastic insulation in the wiring harness. The regulator mounts directly over the part that folded over & shorted out big time. It melted the whole engine bay harness. I have since found a replacement.
