A14 round port 1976 open, 1977 is a quench design.

Type D is from Sunny B310, 1981-1982 USA engine (A14/A15/A12A).

I wouldn't say it were heavily shrouded? (which one are you talking about the image on the left in ddgonzals reply?)

If you look at the shape in the section and consider the valve shape and exhaust stroke it would actually assist the exiting gas flow. I suppose a section through the other axis would determine any shrouding through that direction, but in the axi it looks fine (to me).

As for induction stroke, it's fine.

The only shrouding I would consider is when the valves are so big they come too close to the chamber & cylinder walls. Like the head that 100ATurbo had made up, I think he went backward.

Oh whoops.

I see which one you're talking about.

It wouldn't matter that much on the exhaust valve. The piston is essentially pressing it out.

It would certainly help things along on the induction valve if it were opened a little.

Re: Cylinder head Combustion Chamber types
Is it possible the heavily shrouded D has more meat on the head
as those valves are quite deep in there.
This shrouded head could be opened up so the angle of the sides of the
chamber match the angle of the ports top section.

Well that might help with peak power, but would probably ruin the low-speed characteristics of chamber D. This was designed as a high-torque head.

Keep in mind the classic chrysler hemi head. Vast peak power, but the chsysler wedge head was actuallly faster in stock form for street acceleration. Depends on what you want....all out high-rpm racing, or all around flexibility with good at high RMP and superb at lower RPM.

Sounds like they had it all sorted :)
Any idea if the high swirl heads are kidney or heart shaped?
if so how hard are they to come by?

The high swirl heads are in the photo with chamber "D".

They were the ONLY heads for 1981 and 1982 in USA. So they are too common. Most guys want the high-power heads, but find these high-torque ones.

Re: Cylinder head Combustion Chamber types
I wouldnt mind one. I think they would suit an A10 or A12 with boost
since they where behind A14 with reduced power.

The high swirl heads of the 80s not racing NA performers but give them
boost and they perform with great efficiency for enduros. eg. Z18T

DD if you have one any idea how much to get one of these heads to melbourne?

Re: Cylinder head Combustion Chamber types
head is 16" long and 8" high with valve cover
22.3 pounds with rocker covers, pushrods & head bolts

Unfortunately it is too long for the $53 USD International Large Flat Rate Box. So it's about $140 USD shipping from USA to Australia via US Postal Service. FedEx International Economy is $326 USD.

Not an economy head after all once landed in Oz :(

Oh well back to the drawing board or heading to the States for
a search for the elusive 3.454, some eco heads, some southern
Mexican fish/prawn tacos with the works, across to Cuba
for some local sounds and mojitos!!.
