Here are a couple of oil filter alternatives. If it saves one person from opening all the boxes at at the autoparts store then I guess it's worth it.
These fit the 3/4"-16 thread of the stock oil pump. Same thread as most Ford/Chryslers.  I had to grind a little off of the engine block (a12) to get the extra width to fit. You could probably do it with a big file. The 977a will hang about even with the bottom of the oil pan.

Yes, the standard Ford V8 filter is less expensive yet larger:
F1
PH1
etc

You only need to grind off about 6mm, using a rotary "cast iron" bit makes it live cutting butter.

Browsing through these pics I find it amusing. At work (Ford) we have enough A series oil filters to keep my car going for about 500 years, then we have the Ford ones so that should add a few thousand years to it lol
