This was last week on the way to Shasta, the car is fully loaded. Speed is about 85mph, the speedo is off since the new tires. The 101 on far right reads about 5 deg high, so it's 95 deg in the aircleaner.

Are you saying that when the 1200 is in the draft of a truck, there is poor airflow through the radiator?

Could be, but if you sit right on the bumper of a big truck on a long drive you can use less fuel. It's a good trick for comming home from road trips, when youre running out of coin and have to start obeying the speed limits (or push the car home)

At highway speeds, in something light with a flat back, like a 1200 wagon, that big ole' "B double" [34 wheeler] will just suck you right along behind it. To hell with airflow through the radiator, you will be on the brakes more than the throttle, so grit your teeth, hang on tight & enjoy the ride.[if you're game]
Just pray he doesn't do a panic stop or they will be hosing you off the diff, & thats after you have passed under six axles & two trailers to get there.

The fan light actually glows because the airflow through the radiator makes the fan spin. The more airflow, the brighter it gets. It's a crude airspeed indicator.
Don't laugh, actually I'm laughing, but you'd be surprised as to how far away from a car or big rig you can be and still be in their draft. The next thing you know, while you're laughing, is your car is overheating.
So drive fast, pass often.
