from left to right:
1. 35amp from B110 - 8.4 lbs
2. LR-160 from B310 - 11 lbs
3. Bosch AL237x - 9.6 lbs
4. LR-185 (96 Subaru) - 13 lbs

All have the same engine-mounting side (3-3/16 in between ears). But the 1200 unit is smaller, the adjuster ear is 6-1/8 from the mount ear. The others are all 6-7/8 across.

All except the Subaru unit have the same connectors, which fit the stock B110 wiring.

nice work finding so many that fit ! ive upgraded mine to a ingram 55amp unit, but it doesnt help much at all, since when im using highbeams (100watt H4) + my thermo fan kicks in, my car volts goes under 12 :(
DD - do you know how many ampers these other units are, imparticularly the subaru one ? i think i might need to upg my alternator.. again.

edit: ive since realized that the reason my volts were going UNDER 12 was due to crap earths to my main wiring loom. I fixed and layed extras and now i cruize at 13.4 w/ lights&thermo fan&. drops to about 12.8/9 at idle.

I've got an A15 which means the alternator is mounted on the top left of the engine (looking at it from the front) as opposed to the bottom right of the earlier engine (A12)

I had lots of battery issues over a period of time and eventually stumbled across an option involving what i think is a bluebird alternator (i'm unsure now, it was a while ago and i certainly couldn't tell you the year model).

The auto electrician i spoke to sold me on installing a new type of winding. This new winding upped the max amps output to 90 amps. This is offset however by the fact it doesn't put as much out down at lower RPMs.
Not a problem i suppose if your free with the rev's.

This combo came to something less than $200 i think.

another possible option for you.

matt.

I'm using a Delco 10SI that puts out 70+ amps on my A14. Had to rework the lower bracket with some grinding, 1/4" flatbar and my trusty hot metal gluegun. Works very well. The reason I did so was the difference in price. 10SI complete rebuild at electrical shop ~ $60. Hitachi cheapo rebuild from Schucks Auto Parts ~ $90. And I have eight 10SI alternators

All four of these are Hitachis, including the Bosch unit (Bosch label, but Hitachi logo is cast in).

All have four wires (even though at least the B110 version uses external regulator). The wiring is:

"A" (big post) goes to battery '+' through the fusible link

"E" (earth/ground) goes to the ground (Black) wire in the wiring harness

"F" and "N" connector
"F" (Field) goes to switch 12V (i.e. through the ignition switch -- IGN). This is the exciter connection, without this it doesn't charge.

"N" (lamp) this grounds through the field windings, lighting the dash indicator lamp. When the alternator starts outputting current, Voltage comes out this wire, and since V is then on both sides of the dash lamp, the lamp goes out (the lamp needs V on one side, ground on the other to light up)

For more information, see the Tech Section article Wiring for B110

Like these, most alternators have -- in addition to earth and '+' -- two wires. One is the Field (F) and the other is the lamp wire (N or S).

With an internally regulated altnenator, you only need to wire the F, to IGN. On the Datsun 1200 regular plug, disconnect the regulator and connect the White/Red wire to the F wire. I just wired up my A14-in-B110 this way, and it charges nicely.
