At the time this picture was taken Tim and some of the other guys here in Brisbane were trying to get into the Imports magmzine fastest 4 cylinder on street radials list. The car is on radials all round and was if i remember in third place behind a 1600 and a 1200 wagon. When the car ran 9.96 at the Shootout just after the Jamboree it ran slicks and front runners, also had changed over to power glide g/box.
It races on C16,50 plus shot of gas and something close to 30 pounds boost. The car is run on the street on a second tune,BP ultimate and about half the boost.
Insidently the driver is mooving to Sydney soon so you will be able to see it running down there.

man this thing is awesome
i find it strange he isnt running front runners tho. At Eastern Creek WSID if you are running slicks at the rear you have to run front runners. Must be different in QLD

i think its something to do with cross ply tyres rather than steel belted radials? not totall sure on that one. this is a bit of an older photo, i'm pretty sure the front runners are on now. i think he's also got a bit of laughing gas squirting in too!

front runners refer to the thin front tyres you see on so many dragsters.

I saw it run at the Jambo last year and it was bloody fast. He was doing burnouts to half track on the brake. It was awsome.
Btw I thought it was more than just into the nines.

you might be thinkin of the green twelvy sedan, its got a 13b turbo and runs eights. mega burnouts and mega wheelstands. i think the thing with not running road tyres, apart from the whole unsprung weight and rolling resistance thing is that for some reason the car is much harder to control at high speeds, and the front runners actually make it easier? not sure why but thats what i've heard.

on a side note, i have a massive wheelstand from the 1200 wagon at the jamboree on video. how can i post it for all to see? its 9.99 meg

Re: CA turbo 1200 sedan into the nines!
these "front runners" you keep describing are very skinny crossply tyres.

they give less rolling response than a radial - in fact, i had mine turned a half lock without any serious change in direction at deep track.

this is the reason they make the car "more stable" - less steering response. effectively the only tyres gripping the ground in any useful way are the back tyres - the front crossplies "effectively" are there just to keep the front crossmember from dragging on the ground

kinda like fitting 90/10 shocks to the front - great for straight line racing but useless for the street.
