Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Ahhh yes ! Just like racing an 18 footer - you have to leeaan into those corners Don't I know that feeling Good to see the 1:14 ! Are you wide in this shot or is this the faster line in turn 1 ? I sometimes wonder if I exit too tight Hope we can all get together on the track - yeee - haaaa. Cheers

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Harry, yes it is quite soft in the rear...I had the konis set to about mid setting. I will keep them the same for the Creek but will harden them up a knotch to see if time drop.
Jeff, that was a fast line, it was the same lap as I did a 1.14.5. You need to come in wide and keep as much speed as you can to get up the hill. But if you do that when someone is on your backside, then you leave the door open and they take you on that corner...

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Craig.....your running Koni Yellow's right?
If so, adding more rebound will not help you in the rear. Infact, it will cause the rear to be in the "squat" position longer, as the springs are pushing against a stiffer shock. You need to remember that the shocjks are rebound adjustment only, and do not help with compression.
Looks great on the track mate.
P.S. OP GP has a private practise day on Sunday...I might venture out if I have time to make some adjustments to the radiator set-up in the Sunny.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 I know it's hard to tell from a photo but your car looks to be pretty well ballanced and looks to "hook up" well. Thats a great pic as it grabs the image of your coupe really well. Good stuff Good luck with fine tuning the suspension and set up.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Craig, I run the very same shocks and springs in the rear of my Dat. I found I was gonig quicker on the softer settings on the Koni's. When it was stiffer it was inducing more oversteer. Plus I was experiencing the same symptoms as Harry [L18 ] with minimal tyre wear on the inside edge of the rear tyres. The rear axle was tending to stay parallel with the chassis rather than the road.
I also noted that the stiffer setup did work rather well with full slicks.
Great effort and result by the way.
I plan on running at the track practise day on Good friday, antone else coming along. I figure I will have more track time compared to running on the Easter sunday

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Have to agree with 1200 coupe.....it does look like it's hooking up well....it has a bit of body roll...but that's not necassarily a bad thing in itself.
I know Justin softened his sprinter in the front end for Wakefield this year....and as you know, he set his fastest lap time ever.....1:09 something.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Induced oversteer was my first thought when it was mentioned about tightening up the rear. Again "hook up" looks pretty good although I guess that's what testing is all about. From my experience I always try and keep the rear suspension as soft as I can get away with because it seems to help the coupe's hook up rate. I am in the process of fitting single link traction bars to my coupe so I can keep the rear suspension soft and use the bars to stop any tramp or spring wind up, they are mounted on an angle to the C/L of the diff housing so the diff cant move from side to side when going hard. One traction bar will be in compression and the other in extension - outcome is the diff cant move around much. I will post pics of the geometry when I get the time. That might be something for you to consider if you find you cant get the set up right with the rear damper adjustments etc.
Cheers,
Paul.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Converted, Can you tell me where you got your springs from and what spring characteristics you specified to the manufacturer. PM it if you dont want to post this info in open forums. This is only out of interest at this stage because once I find some money in my sh1thouse rally budget I want to investigate new rear springs, it's probably a job for the off season when I'm not flat out designing and building custom bits for everybody elses racecars

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Springs are from John Taylor [Pedders Penrith]. Unfortunately John has since sold his franchise. Im sure he would be more than happy to help anyone with genuine inquiries. You could probably still get intouch via JTS. When I ordered mine, I inquired on the springs rates. I got the reply "trust me, they will work" They do work just the treat, R-Fast can also confirm as he uses them as well.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 I just rang John Taylor, the 1200 Guru in Sydney. He has developed these springs over a period of 30years. They cost $400 approx and are well worth the $$$

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Thaniks Benny and converted. I will get in touch with them after the rally season is over. $400 doesnt sound too bad if what you get does the job. Are you guys going to be at the track day for the Datnats over easter because I am thinking of going along but only for the track day and it would be good to put some faces to some names.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Friday is an open practise day....not sure how many people will be there for that one..... Sunday is the actual competition day....Hillclimb in the morning and Supersprint runs in the afternoon.
Take your pick.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Im sure their will still be plenty to see on Sunday....It will be extremely busy. The organises will certainly have their hands full, as the plan is to run 3 disiplines on various parts of the circuit with 100 entered vehicles.
I figure 3 to 4 runs per car, per disipline, if everything runs smooth.
Should be quite the specticle.

Re: Race Car Photo Wakefield NSW State Round 1 Your spot on there Benny.....I think from the information they sent though, they are looking at 3 runs per vehicle for each event.... If they can make it all run nice and smooth......I'll take my haty off to them....it's one hell of a job with 100 cars entered.... Will be awesome to see soooo many Datto's on the track too...I can't wait, and I'll certainly have the camera with me.
