 Re: woodydats ute update
The 180B SSS was sold in Australia with three diferent induction systems i believe.
Twin Hitachi round tops
Twin Hitachi square tops
Single Hitachi downdraught.
Just which head went with which induction is beyond me.

I think that you're right, it's the heads casting number that makes all the diference, but i seem to remember reading somewhere that the ports on the L20b head were as good as any, so maybee it's in the combustion chamber that the power lies.

Ahhh what do i know when it comes to L series, i guess that Feral would be one of the blokes who would know for sure what the hot setup was. The only thing that i knew was that there was only one L20b head used in Australian models, SSS or otherwise. Just compare the valve sizes of the SSS head against the L20b's head.

If your guards & bonnet are shot, then have a look at the new Malasian made front sheetmetal parts that are available from Wetheril Park Panels. They may possibly prove to be a proposition, & if you like the coupe grille, as used on utes in '74 & '75, then they have new ones of these too.
Guards $65 [each]
Bonnet $110
Grille $40

 Re: woodydats ute update
you're in luck today just finished doing it tonight the list goes :
1200 strut tops
2" lowered stanza springs (or the orig 1200 springs to keep similar height)
stanza strut bodies, girlok calipers preferably
stanza brake hoses
stanza steering arms
stanza ball joints
stanza lower control arms and pivot bolts
stanza outer tie rod ends (to go into steering arms)
120y radius/castor rods.

the only bit i needed to modify was the radius rod, lined up and bolted the threaded hole, then had to redrill the other hole to line up with the hole in the controlarm/balljoint.
took about a day to clean up enough room in the garage, get the car in pull out all the existing bits and put in the new bits.
took my slack a$$ about 3 weeks and then some to reco, clean and paint all the bits
hope this helps ........ and everyone else that asks can find it with the seach bar

and this is the thread ........ http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=16197&forum=1#72869

Whats the diference between a 200B SSS head & a regular L20b head? The 200B was the last of the SSS models sold in Australia & used a single carb L20b engine.
According to my 200B & Bluebird parts books, part number 11041 U6083 was the only head used on L20b's in Australia from the 200B untill the last one in the Series 2 Bluebird.

Even sitting on drums, its still faster then their no cars, and cooler than any other.

Hey dont sweat over the ute taking time. It will get there and evolve.
Speaking of Evolve, something tells me you have matured a fair bit since your first posts
Keep it up mate.

Cheers Steve

hows urs going,

good - twin turbo now.

A87 peanut chambered head is a 180B SSS head from the twin SU motor.

it's the good one, just behind the V91 (200B factory LPG) and the W53 not far behind (L16 SSS) the A87.
