 Re: Engine bay
At this time, i plan to install the engine the same way as they did it at the factory. I will remove the crossmember, fit the engine /trans to it & lower the body over it. I will likely as not do it at my local service station on his two post hoist.

 Re: Engine bay
It's back up on its wheels, all the loose panels are back on, all the underbody areas are painted black, as is the RSP.

I bought the new headlight buckets twenty years ago because i had a 1000,... the parts man offered them to me,... & they were cheap. "I might use these one day" i said as i handed over the few dollars that he charged me. I said the same thing when i bought new fenders for about $58 each back in the eighties. There were two left in the rafters when i got this car. I used one of them on it.

See, being a packrat DOES pay off sometimes.

 Re: Engine bay
At this time, the rear axle assembly is untouched & is still under the car & the 1200 GX engine & five speed are gathering dust in the shed. All of my financial resources have been directed towards the body, with a distraction due to the 1200 coupe coming along. Good thing that i bought it when i did as Dat_Nat's Skyline caught fire a few weeks back, so it's now no longer in service. His 1200 coupe will prove to be a more than worthy replacement.

Once i get my coupe home i will finish off the body & interior, then start on the mechanicals, begining with the trans rebuild.
I hope to have it back on the road by Christmas,..... of 2007

As for the quality of the job on the driveline, well it looks like i have made a rod for my own back now. If the engine doesn't sparkle, i will be too afraid to open the bonnet for fear of having everyone tell me just how scabby the engine looks.
Sometines i wish i had stuck to the original plan of doing it cheap, then i get a grip on myself [not THERE, you filthy swine] & look foward to driving the best car i have ever owned.

New parts? For 1000 owners, it IS a wonderfull feeling, for 1200 owners, it's been my experience that it's normal. Stuff seems to be so easy to get, & surprisingly cheap too.

Looks awesome Dodgeman!

Did you sandblast the engine bay? I will be getting the engine bay done along with the door jambs...

Keep the inspirational pics coming!

Did you sandblast the engine bay?
Thanks for the kind words.
If you look back through my photo album you will see pictures of it at the abrasive blasting place with a description of the paint removal process.
The paint was removed by LIME blasting at a relatively low pressure. This removes the paint only without damaging thin, errr..., i mean "lightweight" body panels. It will not remove rust & can be done with the glass still in place as long as the glass is not blasted directly.
Any rust staining that remains will need to be removed by hand.

Check out the photo's. When blasting the body, it's best to strip it completely to a shell to allow the whole thing to be done, including the engine bay. It cost over $500 to do, but it is the quickest, most efficient & cheapest method of professional paint removal.
