Our first session on the Dyno with the new Boost Cooler Water injection system installed.

The net result was an increase of 20hp at the rear wheels, and conistsantly low temps in the intake manifold.

We did three runs without water injection to establish a baseline (red line), best run was 189hp at the rear wheels. This figure is about 7hp better than the last time we were at the same dyno. Two possibilitie are 1) The engine was brand new last time and has now done four track days - so it may have loosened up a bit OR 2) The ambient temp today was about 10 degrees cooler. Also what we saw was the intake temps rise after each of the three runs - getting up to about 40 degrees during the third run. If this increase was happening after 3 runs, I can only guess where the temps were when we last tuned the car after two hours on the Dyno!

As soon as we hooked up the Water Injection, temps dropped to between 25-27 degrees and did not venture over this mark for the next  90 minutes of tuning! So approx a 13 degree temp drop off the bat - but mre importantly - a consistant temp to work with.

At the end of the day we extracted 209hp and a substantial increase in torque up from 700lb's initially to 860lb's at the end of the session.

The good news is there is more left in it! The new turbo will be built soon, and the ead will be looked over with more suitable cams going in.

Cheers,

Mark.

I should also add.....for those who don't know...... this was done with our mandatory 36mm restrictor in place!

We are chasing 250-260rwhp....we just made a great leap forward!

36 MM RESTRICTOR?
Holey hole in a donut Datman, that's about the size of a single SU on a British 1500cc car, & we all know that those things are flat out pulling the skin of a cream custard with that much induction, but you have over 200 HP. Krepp, i'm really impressed because i saw how well it went with the 'low power' engine at Wakefield a few months back. Are you sure you can hang onto it at full throttle?

250 HP at the rear wheels sounds like a big ask when pushing all that air through such a little hole. Hell, all you got is 14,7 lbs of atmospheric pressure [on a really good day] trying to make its way into that waste gas whizz-wheel thingie of yours.

I wish you all the success you deserve. [& thats a lot]

Cheers dodgeman....... the power curve is a little smoother now too...hopefully it wont crack sideways quite as viciously

I am interested now in getting it back to the track to monitor how it performs over a race distance - say 6-7 laps. In the past after about 2 laps, you could actually feel the engine loose it's "edge". This also happens to concide with inlet temps rising on the data logging. We saw 57degrees inlet temp a few weeks back at OPGP on a test day - ambient temp was in the low 20's.

With the water injection....I am confident that the inlet temps will stay down for the duration of the race distance.

Just wait until the other goodies get added

Holey heatwave Datman, thats enough to heat your dinner, ... & cook your engines performance too. In the summer heat it's obvious that this temperature rise would be even worse.
Are you running straight H2O, or are you adding a wee drop o' the good stuff ?[alcohol]

A14..... we are running 15psi, that's all the restrictor will effectively let us run. We tried upping the boost, but it couldn't get enough air through the restrictor so with more boost you lose top end revs - which we don't have a lot of anyway. If we didn't have restrictor, you could run a lot more boost with the water injection.

Dodgeman....straight water - no funny business here.
