So ive finally have turbocharged my 120y thanks to harry .I will be doing a bit of work to this in the near future . So far ive put a a14 head on my a12 block and bollted the turbo set up on next was the oil side of things once this was all done it started quit easy ...its quit smooth to 3000rpm then boost comes on and its pulls quit well ,i have no gauges set up as yet and only went down the street but was impressed with that so now its back into my garage for now to fit the larger radiator and thermo fans

ITs all going well the thermo that was on the radiator was dead so ive put a craig davies fan on it .hooked up the electric fuel pump. Ive also connected up some decent gauges to help keep an eye on things .
The exhaust isnt finished im still working on it slowly...

 Re: THE 120Y turbo
Yes it is L18 B110 old set up ive put an a14 head on a12 block and it set up pretty well who ever made the manifold hade some damn fine brain upstairs .the turbo ive been told is equal to a t3 with a external waste gate that plumbs back into exhaust .Imchanging that so the gas from the waste gate runs out behind the front wheel . The turbo set up had everything you could want ,it all bolted up easy .
The boost is set to about 5psi and feels pretty good under boost but ive only been around the block and im already getting funny looks from the neighbours
So i will finish the exhaust before it leaves the driveway again

 Re: THE 120Y turbo
So its nearly there the exhaust is done ,Not a muffler in sight ,Its 3 pices unbolts near the gear box and before it goes over the diff .the distrbutor that i got with the set up will go in tommorrow and be set by timing light ,went for a quik strap out the back with my mate the who,s does the turbo tunning for me ,started off with heeps of detonation on boost, we pulled over a couple of times he fiddled with the dizzy a bit and we put some decent fuel in it her and it calmed down to a slght ping at 5 psi .we also pulled a nice skid made second gear no worries once the boost came on there seemed to be nothing but smoke and the sound of a datto on boost ..We are now ready for powercruise dattochick will be driving it at the event ,And i will be observing and keeping the drinks cold ....Only a few things for me to do now put the interior back in ...Hook up a radiator overflow bottle ,new plugs & points put another thermo fan on and thats about it .........

i would love one of those, there is a few forced induction corollas in launceston, they sound awesome, one is a blow-thru 3k with a single 1ggte turbo, the other is a Fuel injected 4k sc12 charger i think, i would love to be one of the few old school F.I cars in town.

oh and *lick*

 Re: THE 120Y turbo
The 120y survived a thrashing by dattochick at power cruise 2005 ,We entered the cruise and had a go on the dyno ,Once she got use to the datto and tubo coming on boost again ,the lady was well seated and we had no prblem keeping up with some of the 308 and 3.0 litre vls down the straght .
Datto chick will be taking over the turbo 120 y and all responsiblity ,IT will be getting a engine rebiuld and some suspension work and gettin ready to run in powderpuffs competition at willow bank and auto cross events next year ........AS for me I will be concerntrating on my mew project ,A 120y sedan with a turbo charged v8 253 ,A friend of mine is kindly donating a v8 and 4 speed ,I have another 120y so its on its way to existance ........

Good going mate cant wait to see the V8 120y. My only thoughts though are source a 308block. Cheap as chips and have known people to basically give them away. Seeing as though they are physically the same size and identicle in appearence i sure as hell know id rather the extra 55cui inside.

 Re: THE 120Y turbo
so what did the turbo A series end up laying down on the Dyno? and how did you go about fueling? did you use slightly richer jets? how did the temperature go at the cruise? I have never heard a turbo A series yet but I am dying to have a listen to one!

 Re: THE 120Y turbo
We made 69.4 hp at the rear wheels .
It was pretty well tuned for the event we used 30 litres of bp hi octane fuel and 2 containers of octane boost the carby was icing up and we had to back of to let the fuel warm up a few times ,The temp was good all day with a gemini radiator and craig davies 10 inch fan it only reached 110 degree mark and sat on that allday
