got these from my mate today he had them sitting in his shed, they fit the stud pattern on my 1971 1200 coupe but the wheel studs are not long enough. Can I use some longer style nuts on them?

awww yeah! they are 13 x 7's I think so I woill need to fit some flares (possibly) the stud holes are a little bit bigger than the standard wheels so I will need to get some longer thicker studs for each corner of the car.....or can I buy some nuts that are longer and have the tappered lip further up the nut to center each stud inside each hole of the mag wheel?

You need mag wheel nuts which have a tube part [spiggot] that goes down the hole to pick up the stud, & a flat washer that goes into the recess in the wheel.

Don't even think about using a tapered seat nut, unless the wheels have a steel tapered seat insert like the factory mags. It's hard to tell in the pic, but i think that they are standard washer seat types.
Since the wheels were free, shout yourself to a new set of nuts. They should set you back about $40 or so. Wheels & new nuts for $40, what a bargain.

ahhh righto I will have a look around for some is there any kind of nut that is a generic sort like some TRX nuts or something like that? would make it easy for me to go in to the shop and say "one set of TRX wheel nuts please" or bluebird or something Also will I need to fit some flares to the car?

they are very similar to my rims but mine are 8" with 195 tyres on the back and 185s on the front and stick out about half an inch on the back http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=6112&full=1

Take one of your wheels to a tyre store that sells mag wheels & tell them that you want the right nuts to bolt your wheels [show him the sample] to your Datsun.
With any luck he will be able to put his hand into a small bin nearby & produce a fistfull of nuts that will go on your 12mm studs with a 1.25mm pitch. [it moves 1.25mm along the stud for each rotation of the nut. Toyota ones are 12 x 1.5]
I bought my last two sets at $2.50 per nut with washer.

aha! thanks for the information I will go and see about it after work, I checked the sizes today and they are 13 inches in diameter and 6.5 inches wide so I am guessing the correct size for the tyres would be 165 which would not need the flares to keep the tyres behind the body work?

According to my Tyre & Rim Association book, the tyre size that was 'designed' around a 6-1/2" rim is 235, when using any profile tyre from 75 down to 50.

The 'permitted' tyre width variation that can be legally used on that rim width seems to be as narrow as 175 out to as wide as 255 but i would be inclined to go with something like 195 as a minimum to stop it looking too much out of proportion.

Did you measure the full width of the wheel, or just the part where the tyre fits, which would be the correct measuring point.
