This is the setup for models with a heater.
See Tech Section for part numbers and prices.

Note the 1971-1973 alternator mounting, on left side of engine, down low.

Note the 1971-1973 alternator mounting, on left side of engine, down low.

The original Nissan hoses have a braided covering.

The heater hose runs to the firewall, just to left of the rocker cover. At the mid-point, a clamp on the air cleaner bracket supports the hose.

You can use standard 1/2 inch heater hose (as seen here), though the original hose is of a thinner wall than usual, to pass more easily through the firewall grommet.

The small semi-clear tube running down the radiator is the original Nissan hose for radiator overflow. It connect to the port on the radiator cap flange and ends about an inch below the stone guard - it simply dumps overflow onto the ground. To improve this, add an overflow container like newer Datsuns have: when the engine cools down it will suck the coolant back into the radiator.

This must have been the actual 1200 engine cause the 1400 heater hose was a dogleg off the main water pipe leading to the lower radiator hose .Yes I see now the alt. is on the left side . ( used to lookin under my hood)

Datsun 1000 runs the lower hose this way
But its a one piece deal without the break in the centre

I use this on the racecar to keep the alternator low down and out of the way

Re: Alternator Mounting & Lower Radiator Hoses
I had to move the alternator wiring from the LHS of the bay to the right as using the A15 i have the alternator mounted high where they usually sit.
The moving of the wiring was pretty straight forward, just unwrapped about 100000meters ( i exagerate to!) of electrical tape then shift to the right and i mounted the fuse box thingy on the battery tray.. easy conversion!

This is the same with the heater hose, i just used a plastic T junction piece and split if off for the different outlet position of the newer motor.

Tidys the bay up a bit to...

What was the easy conversion for an internally regulated alternator people were doing? The EA falcon or something

Cheers
Dave

Datsun 1000's that do not have a heater use a one piece hose, but those that came with a heater use a two piece design like this.
The original hoses had a cutout to allow the two pieces to be pushed onto the fitting so far that they meet. The cutouts, when the hoses are joined, form a hole for the heater hose fitting to protrude from. This is much neater than the setup in the picture.

Hey that's my car in the picture. I guess I'll be busy this Saturday fixing it now

I still haven't fitted my new fuel filler hose ...
