It is a "brown davis" alloy cage. I assume that is the guy that built it...I will eventually do some research on that.

It is a shame its not steel because I think cams require it now, correct?

sort of...

if it was log booked with the current cage (as it has apparently) then the cage is fine. also when doing club sprints ets your cage does not need to be logbooked anyway.
