standard carpet fits over it pretty well, if you were getting new carpet i'd imagine that the carpet to suit an auto tunnel would fit over it pretty well

also still got about an inch clearance under the heater

 Re: 180b tunnel
Thanks for posting this pic. I have been wondering how well a 180B tunnel would suit. Looks good and easier than folding a new one up. You just saved me a heap of work.
I wonder if this tunnel would be big enough to fit an SR20 six speed - can anybody varify this? Converted what did you do?

 Re: 180b tunnel
by the size of it i would say it would have no problem fitting a sr20 box. I got a ca18 box and a sr20 box in the garage, both 5 speeds and the only size difference is in the bell housing. Sr20 bell housing is substanially bigger than a ca bell housing. Don't know about a 6 speed box though.

Is this just a unmodified 180b tunnel? i had no idea they were that big.

Nick

 Re: 180b tunnel
yeah its just a stock 180b tunnel, and it is massive
i dont think there would be any issues fitting an SR box in one of them, but best of all it still fits under the stock heater assembly

ill get a pic of just the front part of the tunnel in my other 1200, so you can see how much bigger it is compared to the standard tunnel

Is that a 180b auto or manual tunnel?

 Re: 180b tunnel
I dont know why this was done as I have just done an SR20 with a Skyline R32 GTS-T turbo gearbox and did no mods at all to the tunnel apart from a cut 2 inches rear of the gearstick relief to accomodate the beckward position of the new shifter. So much work for so little gain...
Dont get me wrong you did a beautiful job of tacking in the new tunnel.

 Re: 180b tunnel
to tell the truth i just got over the small tunnel, it was much easier to cut the whole tunnel out and get the engine in position to make the crossmember

seems as this is just the spare parts car and the body is kinda dead, it didnt really worry me when i cut the big hole in it

the tunnel is from a manual 180b, and its only sitting there for now

and ill have the pic comparing the size of the standard tunnel to the 180b one up soon

Craig, do you know if the SR20DET motor with your chosen gearbox could be jammed into the 1200 tunnel by doing the same mods as you have ? Does your shell have a manual or an auto tunnel ?

 Re: 180b tunnel
Hey Paul, it is a manual tunnel...snug fit but no modifying at all!!
If i had and auto tunnel 1200 it would be an even easier task.
I even used a stock cross member for the engine, just had specially made engine mounts for the sr20 and the engine slides in perfectly...dont even have to modify the radiator support.
granted I do have to drop the engine to the floor with the cross member and then attach the gearbox under the car.

Thanks Craig - useful info mate.
Send me a PM if you take the car to Wakefield for testing and I'll drive up and have a look how everything fits up.

I'm a big believer in a big tunnel. Mainly for cooling system reasons. Anyone experienced anything either way?

So why would you bother putting an R32 box behind your SR??? you've even gone to the extra effort of wasting money! unless it was for gear ratio reasons...

Is your coupe tunnel auto? Coz its a massive effort to squeeze a sr/rb box into a standard 1200 tunnel, you must have massaged it a hell of a lot, yeah?
