Re: A series Y' know,...I think that this just might be an A10 engine. Why?
The front distributor makes it either A10 or 1200, so we can rule out all other A series engines. 1. The front face of the oil pan does not have the vertical ribs that the 1200 has, but is relatively smooth like an A10 pan. 2. It looks to have a two piece metal fan like an A10 one. 1200's had a plastic fan. 3. It's hard to tell for sure, but in the photo of the other side of the engine, there is no crankcase breather pipe that comes out from the block at the back. It could have been removed & the hole plugged, but A10's never had a pipe there at all. 4. The distance between the highest point of the timing case & the bottom of the head is VERY small, but on a 1200 block, the head sits about 12 to 15mm higher than the timing case. Thats because the deck on the 1200 was raised to accomodate the increased stroke of this engine. The A10 has a 59mm stroke while the 1200 has a 70mm stroke.
Food for thought.

Re: A series Yep, that's an A10. There is no provision at the back of the block for the PCV pipe & the A10 was the only one that never used it.
