If Peter (the guy who calls to complain about the burnouts) has a scanner with police frequencies ILLEGALLY programmed into it, then I doubt he would be calling the police about other people's illegal activities such as burnouts.
And even if he does and catch's the police out, saying his name over the airwaves, then how is he gonna prove it....by admitting that he is illegally listening to police frequencies??
Sound stupid to you?? It does to me.

And also add to that, saying someones name over police radio is not breaching privacy because only police are meant to be listening!

Well, I stand corrected....Back when I was 17 and cared about things like police scanners, the police told me that it was illegal. But I should have known not to believe anything highway patrol tell you....

Yeah its not illeagal to listen to police frequencies in private, but in public places including cars it is illegal. So Peter's set up would be frowned upon.

Peter one way to avoid tis is to have the frequencies recorded at home, when you see the red and blue hit the reset button and clear all the codes, when cops ask you can just say you were using it for some leaglo reason... hunting, weather checks, listen to CB freq's... a little tip for batman

Honestly mate, I'm sick of seeing photo's of the "junked-up" interior of your car + pic's of yourself looking for love + you & your boy etc etc, which amounts to a heap of unrelated $hit that has absolutely nothing to do with Datsun's or this site.

It isn't illegal to listen to police scanners.
It is illegal to listen to police scanners in order to do something illegal.

Eg. Just listening to to police scanner is not an issue. Listening to a police scanner in order to avoid them in order to go drag racing or in order to rob a bank or whatever IS illegal...

So. If you are caught doing something naughty and you have a scanner. Then you may get in trouble for that.
Otherwise it isn't a problem.
You can listen to police scanner on the internet.

I was listening to the police scanner when the "Race Riots" in Sydney. about half way through one night, someone started started transmitting on the channel to stuff the police up.
Transmitting on the channel is illegal.
Just listening to it isn't.
Most police are changing over to digital now anyway. So these scanners wont be of any use.
