I am certainly not taking the magazines side, but they probably said that because they have featured a couple of morris' with the A series conversion.
Bloody tools, Fast Fours and Rotaries is a better book anyway

The 1950's Datsun engine *was* a copy of the Austin engine, but still improved over the Austin (it was licensed). The early 60s Datsun E-series engine was an improved re-design of that.

But yes the Datsun A-engine is very different ... 3 generations removed but with (barely) recognizable A-series roots from Austin design.

Are these magazine editors complete idiots.
The caption says that the Datsun A series engine is almost a dead copy of the Morris A series [which is actually an Austin engine anyway]

If these brain dead morons took so much as 30 seconds too compare the two engines they would realise that the only similarity is in the fact that both are 4 cyl OHV engines. Here the similarity ends.

To call our Datsun engines copies of Morris engines is like saying that your 1200 is a copy of an Austin A40.[& what a POS that is] They both have four wheels, but basicly, the similarity ends there.

they might be thinking of the j series motor
i think that the datsun should be the car that all other cars are based on

vunerable .....wankers. This is why morris drivers upgrade to the Aseries of course because the morris motor is indentical, they just change to Aseries for the fun of it and cause thier a vunerable motor lol...
