looks good mate!
Is that a a12a with the dizzy at the front?
Point of order.
The engine that TnPshow has is a 1200 engine. These were stamped A12, although I call them 1200's as this is the only rear drive passenger model that they were used in, & I use the A12 designation to refer to the 1974 & later versions for the sake of clarity.
The engine in the photo is [correctly] refered to as an A12 as per the engine ID on the block
The A12A engine, with its 75mm bore, 70mm stroke & 1237cc was used in the B310 range, which means that it appeared sometime in 1978 & later. The A12A has the distributor in the rear position near No.3 cylinder & is to all intents & purposes an A12 engine with a 2mm overbore.
The only A series engine to use the front distributor location were the A10, in the Datsun 1000 range & the 1200 from 1970 up to '73. The new, re-designed engine was introduced with the B210 model for '74 & this new design was used on all other A series engines.
With a bore size of 76mm & it's original stroke of 70mm it would displace 1270cc. Using standard A14 pistons will make this happen & this is the spec & capacity of my short stroke A13 engine that was also used in some B310 models.
At the A14's first oversize of 76.5mm you would get 1287cc & this is what I used in my 1000 sedan for many years. It's a great combination.
The nearest I could get to 1280cc was with a 76.25mm bore for 1279cc, but this is an odd size to use when one remembers that A14 pistons are so readily available.
1200 engines of this spec are an absolute joy & I know that you will find a way to soil your underwear more than once when you get it out onto the track. It's a great choice & a bloody good score.
Good on you.
P.S. I rather like the tiny front pulley. This should slow up the water pump & alternator quite nicely at racing speed.
